My hot take is that all villains are tragic villains, if we're given sufficient access to their interiority & backstory. Redemption arcs & empathy with villains aren't about excusing harm - on the contrary, acknowledging humanity is to emphasise our constant, ongoing capacity to *choose otherwise*.

What does civic faith look like in a time when participation feels futile but withdrawal feels irresponsible?

Democratic participation—voting, protesting, serving, showing up—matters most when institutions disappoint.

Jane Goodall's work insisting, with evidence from her brilliant and tenacious fieldwork, that we were not so separate from animals, and they were much more like us than the Eurocentric theorists asserted, was so important.

This is why we fund scientists to study things like oyster slobber even if you don’t think it sounds important
⚠️ Chinese researchers have invented bone glue that mimics how oysters stick to surfaces underwater.

The adhesive can reportedly repair orthopedic fractures in 2-3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments, and is bioabsorbable.

Many who defended Charlie Kirk as “nothing more than a good Christian” are being forcibly exposed to his hateful bigotry - a side of him algorithmically omitted from their social media diet.

Stephen Miller is right that there’s a growing ideology that seeks to destroy everything that is good and that it leads to violence but he’s wrong about which ideology it is, because he’s deeply and intimately tangled up in it and can’t see anything he doesn’t personality like as having value.

There are several options for digital support and VTTs featured at the Ironsworn website, and none of them utilize gen-AI.

Absolutely.

John Company is > < this close to being a robust RPG in terms of play experience. Meanwhile these sprawling campaign games like Vanguard are so, so far away.

Been thinking about a piece on this as well.

This is the kind of resistance I have needed to see and learn from
I recommend reading all five pages for the nuance it brings. This is partly a religious dispute (some Friends have issues and this is a doctrinal response), but it is largely about the usual Quaker approach: finding kindness and acceptance within the consent of those participating.
This, from the Quakers, is a pretty good example of how to resist pressure from bigot lobbying groups. Effectively “we legally can allow trans people to use the loo, we morally should, and we tried it and nothing bad happened”
