This is a good thread, and also a reminder that "kindly" enforcing hateful, racist systems is still hateful and racist. There's no tone that ICE or Noem or JDV or DJT can strike that will change the truth about what they're doing.
Prichett decided rather than crack down with violence, he would "kill them with kindness."

He arrested people for violating segregation orders, but he ordered all his men to act professionally and peacefully and he refrained from making inflammatory comments in the press or egging on the KKK.

The killing of Alex Pretti and the grotesque lying was an overreach by the administration. They've paid a price and had to pull back a bit. But it's when there's some disarray that the democratic opposition needs to intensify the offensive, and turn a marginal tactical success into a major victory.

Reminder that, as of the latest reports, Liam Ramos is still in prison in Texas - now for 5 days.

His parents are legal asylum seekers with no criminal record.

A major newspaper publishing guide to help people identify the munitions their government is using against them is a real "Late Republic America" timepeice that future historians will comment on.
Here's how to identify some crowd control munitions, canisters of which federal agents have left on the ground after deploying them against people in Minnesota. bit.ly/3YWp1jE

Local police chiefs* breaking publicly with ICE and distancing themselves from it is an absolutely good and important development.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara: "People have had enough. This is the third shooting in less than 3 weeks. The MPD went the entire year last year recovering about 900 guns from the street, arresting hundreds of violent offenders, and we didn't shoot anyone ... this is not sustainable."

I have spent my entire adult life being lectured by Republican politicians and conservative legal movement types about how important it is to preserve the sacred constitutional right to self-defense of *specifically this person* and then secret police murdered him in the street

What's happening in Minnesota is one reason the Reconstruction Amendments banned insurrectionists from holding office. Unfortunately, the originalists on the Supreme Court interpreted the plain language of the amendment to mean its opposite.

@npr.org why does this story lead with a line that fed administration and local officials are “trading accusations” about what happened followed by known lies and a clip from greg bovino when there is VIDEO SHOWING WHAT HAPPENED. Insanely irresponsible editorial choices at best. You are complicit.

In a civilised society the military would turn on their despotic leader and remove him from power.
They would defend the constitution and protect the people.
The American people are not safe.
The constitution is under attack.
Remove him.

I don’t want to hear anything from an elected official unless it’s a plan to defund the DHS and impeach Noem, Bovino, etc. No texts. No emails. No talk about the economy. Step up or step off.

The Republican position now appears to be that you have a constitutional right to openly carry a gun in public, unless you do so while expressing a view that the government dislikes, in which case the secret police can shoot you to death on the spot.

The official policy of the government of the United States of America is that they will murder anyone they want, that they will tell any lie necessary to justify that murder, and that no one who resists them has any rights they are bound to respect.

Our Democratic elected officials are not rising to this moment so most of them must go.

Any elected official who isn’t willing to organize a Project 2029 around punishing everyone in the Trump administration in order to save democracy must go.

It’s not enough to say Abolish ICE. It’s not enough to vote no on ICE funding. It’s not enough to confront Kristi Noem or Greg Bovino with Stern Words.

If you are a leader, what are you doing to protect your community? How are you using your power, privilege, and position to confront this threat?
