OPENING NIGHT!

Whatever chaos the world threw at us, "Charles Darwin's Christmas Carol" and "Flora" had their premiere and it was a hoot, even with my goofy Chester A. Arthur facial hair going on.

3 more shows! Come see us this weekend, #ROC!

Opening night jitters are done - first show went great!!

Come out and see us tomorrow night, Saturday night or Sunday afternoon!

A responsible headline for a story like this would read, "Administration Attempts To Change Kennedy Center Name."

Followed later by a story about how and why the attempt failed.
The Kennedy Center name is established by federal statute, and therefore may be repealed only by federal statute. www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/...

It's almost showtime, #ROC friends!

"Charles Darwin's Christmas Carol" opens Thursday night at MuCCC and runs through Sunday, with me as a Darwin who needs to be dragged through time to be persuaded to publish, and @lisafybush.bsky.social as Emma, my wife and first cousin.

Come see us!

On the plus side, the audience for NewsNation on a Sunday night can probably be counted on one hand.
NewsNation, Nexstar's right-wing "unbiased and neutral" news network, is now doing sponcon for Qatar

But at least they're doing it without my $. I haven't missed most of their content since I let my subscription lapse last year.

At least the local public radio talk show (you still here, @evandawson1.bsky.social?) seems not to use those hot takes as cheap fodder to fill airtime as much these days.
The Atlantic leading by example here, continuing to employ writers and editors no matter how shitty their thinking and writing is
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:

You can do this right now:

Think of a person who wrote a paper you love, whose work influenced or helped you, or has made your professional life better.

Search up their email address. Shoot them a quick email of thanks. It means so, so much. This is a rough time of year, share some joy.

You're going to be shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, to find out that @morelle.house.gov voted for this shit sandwich of a bill.
115 Democrats just voted to codify the first federal trans segregation law.

When the print run is gone, that's it - so if you have that one weird friend you need to buy for, order now!
I was thrilled to write a story on Scott and Lisa Fybush's Tower Site Calendar. 2026 is the last year they'll be publishing it, so you most definitely want to get your hands on it for a Christmas gift!

@fybush.com is truly a jack-of-all-trades in the radio industry, from journalism to engineering.
Fybush to Publish Final Tower Site Calendar - Radio World
It's been a fixture on the walls of radio enthusiasts. But the 2026 Tower Site Calendar will be the last, according to Scott Fybush.

RESULTS: Democrat Tim Keller has won reelection as mayor of Albuquerque.

He defeats a former Republican sheriff, who took issue with Keller's executive order that limited collaboration with ICE.

And that's not all: Liberal faction seizes majority a city council.

I am descended from Eastern European Jewish immigrants who were the underclass of Brooklyn and Buffalo in the 19th century.

Whatever was said about them then and what's being said about the Somalis now is all the same, and it's as wrong now as it was then.
If your origins are Southern Italian, Irish, Polish etc. some version of this claim - the immigrant is a criminal underclass incompatible with the true Americans - has been around forever. They hate that the idea of America is more important than any group.
Stephen Miller: "If Somalia keeps failing, if these societies all over the world continue to fail, you have to ask yourself if you bring those societies into our country & then give them unlimited free welfare, what do we think is going to happen? You're going to replicate the conditions they left"

How do you exist in 21st century America and NOT become radicalized by how far we have fallen from what we once thought were our ideals and values?

This is how things work in my town of Brighton, NY, too.

Even with at least one town council member who loudly proclaims herself to be a supporter of bike and pedestrian options.
If the priority were people, the sidewalks would be cleared too.

The priority is cars.
This was a choice, not by the person walking but by the decision makers who refuse to prioritize them.

For my very first NFL game ever, and my only one at the current #Bills stadium, I couldn't have picked a more exciting Sunday.

I expect to have feeling back in my extremities by early 2026. 🥶

Rochester/WNY friends: come see me and @lisafybush.bsky.social and some very talented friends in "Charles Darwin's Christmas Carol" Dec. 18-21!

I play Darwin and she's my wife/first cousin Emma. It's a very funny, very smart play, part of a pair of one-acts.

The creative you saw/experienced/listened to 100% knows everything they fucked up, didn't get right, or totally whiffed on. Telling them that you enjoyed what they did anyway, especially now, can be the difference between them quitting forever because of all that and keeping going.

Please tell us!
I’ve sometimes fallen into the trap of thinking that complementing a creative person for their work is less sophisticated or desired than discussion or debate about it but very often the best thing you can say to them is hell yeah and that doesn’t make you dumb it just makes you nice

TN07 is a story about gerrymandering: the GOP cracked Nashville into 3 districts when it redrew the 2022 map, destroying the Dem seat there.

Fast-forward: a section of Nashville, which just 5 years ago had a Dem representative, is now voting Dem by huge margins but it's been designed to not matter.

In my continuing attempt to tackle new challenges in middle age, I am starring in a play later this month!

"Charles Darwin's Christmas Carol" is a delightful one-act by my brilliant friend Matt, with a cast that also includes @lisafybush.bsky.social as my wife/cousin.

We're at MuCCC the 18-21st.

The first digital audio editing I did in radio was ~1993 on one of the first DSE7000 workstations. I had to work overnight to get time on it. It had 22 minutes TOTAL of stereo audio storage. I had to dump segments off to tape as I edited them to free up room on the 40 MB HDD.

I'm only 53.
There was a time when I had a business that required a lot of digital storage. We paid $20,000 (around $40k in today’s dollars) for a 5-foot-high stack of interconnected drives.

They had 54 gigs of storage! Less than half of the iPhone I got for free when I signed a 2-yr contract.

I’m only 55.
