i was also struck by how many people receiving SNAP are employees of wal-mart and other big corporations. almost seems like we taxpayers are subsidizing private companies 🤔

Interesting perspective on measuring productivity: look at expected side effects. If AI were truly boosting productivity by the claimed amount, we'd expect to see a significant increase in software releases. We don't.

Where's the Shovelware? Why AI Coding Claims Don't Add Up
78% of developers claim AI makes them more productive. 14% say it's a 10x improvement. So where's the flood of new software? Turns out those productivity claims are bullshit.

Great statement and one I absolutely agree with as a developer, both from my professional experiences in industry and ones as an independent developer.

Garcia is back in the States and can speak.

And, because of his testimony, it's clear that CECOT is torturing inmates.

In 2025, the American President is disappearing immigrants to concentration camps in El Salvador to be tortured until they die.

This cannot be who we are.

Howdy all. I'm unfortunately not going to be with my employer for much longer due to team relocation. If anyone has any info on roles that would allow me to continue my Rust compiler work (in New York City), they'd be greatly appreciated.

Logarithmic maps are incredibly useful for algorithms on surfaces--they're local 2D coordinates centered at a given source.

Yousuf Soliman and I found a better way to compute log maps w/ fast short-time heat flow in "The Affine Heat Method" presented @ SGP2025 today! 🧵

Pet peeve that has been peeving me a lot recently:

People that make their own simplified and barebones version of a thing (very cool), then publish it (also very cool), then market it using some misleading claims about how it's 10-50x faster than the original thing (very not cool).
