Great statement and one I absolutely agree with as a developer, both from my professional experiences in industry and ones as an independent developer.

This is one of the primary reasons I get depressed about AI.

Much of the value proposition of current AI systems comes as a direct consequence of disposing the idea that craftsmanship has any value at all.

I care *so much* about craftsmanship.

in the orientations themselves.

For quaternions, the "long path" shown here between the two directions is actually the shortest path since going the "short path" would have to take an extra full rotation thru the double cover, as shown in the image!

Without double cover, when interpolating between two directions, you must choose to either take the long path or the short path. Most times we arbitrarily choose to always take the shortest path. In this case that is wrong!

With double cover, the correct way to interpolate is encoded

Double cover doesn't let you avoid gimbal locks but it does have advantages for interpolation.

Imagine you rotate from the blue to the pink direction, and in reality you took the green path. So when interpolating you want to interpolate the green path of rotations.

Got blasted back to my competitive Overwatch days watching the OWCS finals at Dreamhack yesterday, and got to have a super fun little Embark x Aaron Keller chat afterwards!

I sent this 7A (V7) graded boulder problem on Wednesday and repeated it better today! It's a huge jump from my usual grade which is around 6A+/6B (V4). It felt really awesome to send the first time and to make it so much better/easier today. #move

Hey @ponderingpolitics.bsky.social, saw you chatting with Steven about cameras and lighting. Made a little virtual demo of what was talked about. There's more details in the alt text of each image.
