Again it’s not good that the most prominent leaders of the party keep insisting it’s a trap to talk about “identity” when the Trump administration is pushing white supremacy.
Speaking at a Texas Tribune Festival on Friday, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg criticized the Democratic Party for failing to reach everyday Americans, arguing that it “got sucked in” to a conversation about identity. #TribFest25
Pete Buttigieg critiques Democrats for focus on identity
The former U.S. transportation secretary said the Democratic Party should focus more on issues gripping the country, such as health care and housing affordability.

40 years ago today, Cocteau Twins released their sixth EP, Tiny Dynamine, on 4AD Records. One of many remarkable releases by the band, Side B (featuring Plain Tiger and Sultitan Itan) is stunning and always transports me to some other world.

Today marks 30 years since the almighty At the Gates released 4th album Slaughter of the Soul. I count myself lucky to have seen the them in Tāmaki Makaurau before Tompa passed. His “Go!” exhortation on the title track is a thing of beauty. RIP to a legend.

It's honestly amazing how long this shit was open since the 08 primary.

All this was available well before the 2016 election, but HRC could never use it bc it also implicates her family, she invited his right hand lady to her daughters wedding POST CONVICTION

Media keep running stories about internal strife within Te Pāti Māori every day and it's quite telling how media outlets put significant time & resources into doing this, but seem unwilling to adequately cover the myriad actions actually detrimental to AoNZ being carried out by govt parties

when white liberals cry about state violence under trump and how this is not what america is i like to challenge them on what point in american history they think america wasn't using state violence to enforce white supremacy. like tell me a decade you think things were good during.
it's weird that the FBI killing a bunch of black leaders in the mid-20th century is considered sort of an unfortunate footnote in the story of american politics, if noted at all

Even without the Epstein stuff, Trump is guilty of all kinds of heinous shit in just this term so far. And that’s no different from previous presidents. They’re all responsible for untold levels of murder, torture, rape and assault of men, women and children at home and across the world.

The next time you eat at a restaurant and then uncontrollably vomit and diarrhea in your pants, you should send a note of thanks to the Republican and Democratic senators who helped their campaign donors slip this language into their legislation to reopen the government.
Shutdown Deal Kills Food Safety Rules
After lobbyists spent big on the Trump administration and Democratic defectors, the government funding bill cut food-contamination rules and limited ultraprocessed-food research.

Is it also that these tendencies towards organisational self-protection, deference to hierarchy and intolerance towards external criticism apply directly to the government as well?
The fundamental problem this Government has in responding to the McSkimming coverup report is that it's broader law 'n order programme relies on having an enforcement arm that exhibits these sorts of characteristics ... no "soft" policing that second-guesses its actions + does "what is needed".

The 2004 Inquiry into Police Conduct exposed a male-dominated culture marked by loyalty and secrecy. Then-commissioner Howard Broad pledged to "make the changes necessary to prevent this sort of behaviour ever happening again."
There's also still over 100 police under investigation for falsifying breath tests. Who are still working as police officers.
Mark Mitchell on RNZ Morning Report saying "just a few bad apples, rest of the Police are all goods". But the IPCA doesn't really seem to agree with this assessment?

If you think the McSkimming thing is bad you should see how police are treating young Maaori and Pacific islander communities, you should see how police respond to rape and domestic abuse cases! You don't get to be the head of an org without reflecting the org itself.

Abolish the Senate.

It's antidemocratic, anti-Black, and classist. It exists solely because the racist founders thought the House of Representatives was TOO democratic and because the southern slavers demanded a house of Congress where they'd have outsized influence.

Get rid of it.

Truly amazing that any time the democrats have to bite the bullet and do something that ruins countless lives, there's always *just* enough votes to get it done, but if there is a vote on something that would actually improve people's lives, they are always one vote short. Crazy how that happens.
