People really be doing the omelas like "ok we need some people to be miserable so I can be happy but let's just put em somewhere I can't see them so I can pretend I'm a good person."

Gotta love da spinoff sometimes.

Oh, police commissioner abusing power and getting it covered up by his mates? Great time to talk about how we need da boiz in blue to clean the streets of filthy homeless people so developers can build apartments in peace.

If you think the McSkimming thing is bad you should see how police are treating young Maaori and Pacific islander communities, you should see how police respond to rape and domestic abuse cases! You don't get to be the head of an org without reflecting the org itself.

Really cool that stuff stopped being racist all those years ago and made an apology to Maaori I'm sure there's no double standard in repor-

If there is one lesson to be learned, strategically, from the war in Ukraine it is that China has near complete spectrum dominance in the areas required for modern war (ironically only lacking in power projection). Western nations should be leveraging soft power.
Could NZ plug into Australian 'drone wall' to keep China at bay?
Dr Malcolm Davis outlines a multi-layer drone defence - from long-range 'Ghost Bats' to cheap interceptors - that New Zealand could plug into.

I guess the thing that shocks me about the general illiteracy regarding the second world war, especially the eastern front, is like ... We have *decades* of history that presents a more grounded view of what happened there but the pop narrative (fuck you Beevor) still dominates this is an issue ...

crowd sourced the idea of a competing “local star” campaign in NZ to hijack the michelin PR here. i’d much rather see strong communities, local sourcing and affordable meals. real opportunity to subvert this i reckon.

We have a wealth of research, peer reviewed and going back decades, that shows what works for Maaori in the education system. The current govt changes are emphatically not it.
media intentionally not understanding that reporting the PR line is biased, because you don't run out a headline like this unless you're pro-government and racist against Māori, frankly

Extremely odd distinction made in RNZ reporting on the removal of te tiriti from schools "In a press release as ACT Party leader rather than associate education minister, David Seymour" why make the clarification?

Teachers shocked by government decision to remove Treaty of Waitangi requirement in schools
The minister had been moving to change the requirement, but has announced it will remove it altogether.

Why is it important to have a history curriculum that accurately represents WW2 (unlike the proposed proto-nazi one?) we have a museum with an SS exhibit, there was a ski run named after an SS soldier. Our minister of defense explicitly cites fucking Rommel as an inspiration. The Nazis are here.

If I had $5 for every time a group in central Canterbury did public apologia for the SS in my lifetime I'd have $10 which is $10 more than I should have.

At this point it is difficult to not believe that the explicit goal of the government is to make New Zealand an unattractive place to teach for teachers educated and trained in New Zealand, to be supplemented by affordable untrained or overseas teachers.
