I heard once that "respect" can mean "treat as a person" or it can mean "obey the authority of", and very often someone wants you to obey their authority before they'll treat you like a person.
“Civility” is how the modern Right — and increasingly the modern “middle” — describes the attitude “thank you Sir, may I have another”
also I don’t give a shit about “civility,” who cares

"...we deal in the moral equivalent of black holes, where the normal laws - the rules of right and wrong that people imagine apply everywhere else in the universe - break down; beyond those metaphysical event-horizons, there exist...special circumstances."

Erez Reuveni argued on behalf of the Justice Department during Friday’s hearing in the Abrego Garcia case.

Reuveni has reportedly been placed on leave.

Here’s one exchange with the judge that may have contributed to his ouster:

A major reason that cryptocurrencies like bitcoin have never taken hold in the US as anything other than speculative assets (that’s what economists call casino chips) is that we already had a stable, well-regulated currency and banking system. But, you know, whatever.

Maybe I'm becoming a crotchety old man, but I can't think of a model of social media that doesn't suck anymore. The entire concept peaked in ~2005 with forums & IRC and all innovations since then ended up being time-wasting, socially corrosive clusterfucks that brought out the worst in everyone.

Okay seems like I need to say this more clearly: Musk potentially owning TikTok is acceptable to Beijing because there’d be compliance, alignment, and deference from him in the same way it gets from Chinese CEOs, because Musk’s businesses are exposed to Chinese government power and influence.

Is all the crazy talk about annexing Canada and Greenland trying to distract the public from something else? Or is Team Trump just trolling everyone?

I've seen a bunch of posts about the followback culture on here. Let me just say two words about this:
IT'S STUPID.

I have 493 followers out of 7536 who follow at least 5000 others. 20 of them follow over 100,000 others. 🤦 These attention seekers do not care about your posts. Stop feeding them.

We work hard all week, there's really no guarantee that once weekend comes, your brain can disengage or that it's given back to you in the same state when the week started.

If you have a really tough week, it takes time to untangle.
