I gotta keep yelling about Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. I know it's cliche to describe a book as a Rich Tapestry with Themes, but this one really is. It's about debt, and webs of gratitude, and finding your agency, and the endless sea of women's work. It's about what we owe to each other.

this pings my "the dominant mental model is broken" thought process so hard. leaves are not mess, outside is not inside. disposing of nutrients to keep things tidy, where they are not causing slippery pathways or other actual risks, is a nonsense to all flora, fauna, and fungi.
So many of my neighbors seem obsessed with raking all the leaves off their lawns, and disagreements about the value of lawns aside (I murdered mine and planted a pollinator garden over it) why would you take all that food away from your grass? Now you're gonna have to fertilize it in the spring!
