During Thanksgiving and holidays, people want to do food drives where they collect canned goods etc... and I really would love to offer that food banks need MONEY so if you can collect and donate MONEY please do that. They can then use those funds to purchase what's needed AT DISCOUNTS.

We know more about the massive military-style raid on a Chicago housing complex thanks to the reporting of @southsideweekly.bsky.social, @blockclubchi.bsky.social, and neighborhood resident Eboni Watson who chronicled the event. Among the emerging questions: what's real estate's role in this?

“How does the computer know something happened if no one tells the computer about it” is the easy-reader way to explain why we still need human reporters and data-collectors

And I also find it genuinely alarming that even some people on this website don’t seem to grasp this
I firmly believe that if you’d said to someone in 2015 that in 10 years, “a lot of people will believe there’s no need for human field reporters because they think that entirely online-based AI chat bots can replace them”, they’d have called you insane.

The cowardly capitulation of universities will only embolden the administration to crack down further on those institutions. Those who show weakness invite a greater spectacle of abuse, given that acts of submission excite rather than satiate the fascists.

When history of 2025 is written, the early & easy compliance a lot of institutions & people who claim to represent humanities (incl. some museum administrators, people at federal-adjacent-but-not-quite orgs, & of course univs) will loom large. Those who show different choices are possible are why.
Can we get more of this? “The Japanese American National Museum will ‘scrub nothing,’ Fujioka said, and instead will highlight the importance of DEI.

“Our community is based on diversity, equity is guaranteed to us in the Constitution, and inclusion is what we believe in,” Fujioka said.

My latest piece with Marcel Paret about the anti-capitalist wing of the anti-apartheid movement came out today in 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘴 and is open access 🧵

This movement may be well documented, but its radical wing has been mostly ignored.

The American civil rights icon became a Ghanaian citizen and died there later that year.

The premise here, just to spell it out, is that no black person, woman, queer person, etc., has EVER genuinely accomplished something. Every time it ever seemed like they had, it was just white people virtue-signaling by using them as tokens or whatever

Or in other words that they're natural slaves
The Department of Defense deemed a story about baseball hero and civil rights leader Jackie Robinson's time in the Army as "DEI" and deleted it.

The attack on DEI shows why liberals should stop arguing about "strategic" use of language forever. DEI stands for three uncontroversial virtues that most every American accepts, and the right still turned it into a vile slur. It doesn't matter what you say - they will poison it because YOU said it.
