Fifteen years of ideological choices to strangle & gut the public realm - NHS to schools to social services to local museums - is what underlies the anger "tearing our country apart"; immigration is simply the scapegoat that the far right are pushing people toward.
Why can't Labour just say this?

Quite. Nobody appears to address the lack of legal entry for asylum seekers.
It’s just pandering to the Right, this, isn’t it?

My granddad was a refugee, my wife, our close friends and those of our kids are either immigrants or the children of immigrants.

Do ministers ever think about the message their rhetoric on "handouts" and "golden tickets" for migrants sends about whether this is a government for people like us?

Can we go back to the days when politicians said that they really wanted to help people but it’s very hard and takes time, rather than saying that they want to hurt people and can do it quickly?

Note, the far right guys aren’t going ‘we can vote Labour now they’re speaking our language’, they’re going ‘look, these idiots are smoothing the way for the extremist parties we have very openly said we’ve going to vote for for several years now.’

No surprise to see Tory MPs like Bernard Jenkins as apologists for Reform & its followers re their abuse of national flags.

Sad to see Labour use the same narrative. It was good to see George Monbiot on Politics Live treating Jenkins' position with the contempt it deserves.

If we're talking about bias, why do BBC politics programmes, from Politics Live to the Laura Kuennsberg Show, still always begin with a look at the newspaper front pages, which are overwhelmingly biased in one direction. Helps frame the entire news agenda and debate in their favour
