Been rather dispiriting how much ink has been spilled by the gallery on MP expenses, while the report into mutual obligations has been pretty much ignored. @amyremeikis.bsky.social is on it #ThePoint (what is The Point? It’s not news, but it SHOULD be)

The welfare system isn’t just on fire, it’s burning out of control
The problem with having pattern recognition is that you can always see the fires before they start. Governments are a bit like that, too.  It’s not that they don’t see the fire before the smoke, it’s...

Wonderful record Everald. We need more people like you. As an 84 year old with a comfortable life, my main issues are housing, health, child care and age care. I worry for all those affected by those things.🙄😢😊

An Australian Human Rights Act would make our lives better by putting human rights at the heart of laws and government decisions.

Legislating Human Rights Acts from Whitlam to Now Report shows why the Albanese Government should make an Act a reality.

Interesting study from Germany on e-bikes and the modes they replace:

"43.1% of electric bicycle trips and 63.2% of electric bicycle mileage would have been undertaken using a car if no e-bike had been available, highlighting their substantial potential to reduce transport-related CO2 emissions"
Further, steeper, greener: Implications from an electric bicycle mode choice model

Paris & @annehidalgo.bsky.social are praised for their visionary, progressive city-building, but they don’t get nearly enough credit for just being really pragmatic! Everything they’re doing is common sense.

They’re moving a lot more people with less space while cleaning the air & cooling the city.

Upright is a much more pleasant way to ride
Upright bikes have been a game-changer for urban biking around the world since they first “exploded” outside of Europe — I wrote this with @modacitylife.com back in 2014, “In Praise Of The Upright Bike” back when we were still spreading the word in those early years. www.huffpost.com/archive/ca/e...

Makes sense to me

“So the paradigm shift underway in our power system is from the economics of baseload and peaking, to renewables and firming”
“There is no going back:” AEMO bids goodbye to baseload grid and spins high renewable future
AEMO says there is “no going back” to a baseload and peaking power system, but for the moment prefers spinning machines over battery inverters for system security.

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Our regular reminder that when we’re driving, we’re not stuck in traffic.

We ARE traffic.

That’s a product of our individual choices, as well as our collective choices, including who we choose to give massive city-building powers to and the choices they make with that power.
