Answers not truth.

AI(LLMs) will always give you answers. They cannot give you truth.

They do not think. They navigate the most probable correct looking answer.

Autocomplete in its most extreme form.

This does not preclude them from being useful. Be mindful.

my experience this weekend

- did a few successful wild refactors (completely swapped data layer and removed a bunch of third party code, completely new end-to-end test suite)

- reduced a very tricky bug to a minimal repro

mostly autopilot but my feedback was absolutely crucial at every stage
I think where I’m starting to land, with my experienced pre and post coding agents:

1. This is true, coding agents make you more productive if you know how to use them.
2. MBAs hoping coding agents will replace coders wholesale are going to be very disappointed with the results if they try.
At the risk of starting the flame war to end all flame wars...

Modern LLMs (GPT-5.1, Claude 4.5, Gemini 3) produce excellent code and can be a significant productivity boost to software engineers who take the time to learn how to effectively apply them - especially if used with coding agent tools

self-knowledge is healing

realizing that it's not you, it's the world, is healing. things can still suck but you put the blame where it belongs and that alone is an ENORMOUS relief.
My grandchild who was sectioned, cutting, anorexic, school refusing, overcome with intrusive thoughts, on antipsychotics a year ago has healed to become a joy filled high achieving 18 year old. My gratitude is beyond measure. Can a diagnosis alone achieve this? Autism.
