truly. throughout this profile, you can tell that she's a Philly lady through and through <3
These days, former nightlife star and '70s trans icon Rachel Billebault, once known around the world as Harlow, is known by her neighbors in the Greater Northeast as a sweet — and still quite beautiful — senior lady who mostly keeps to herself. (1/3)
Harlow's still here
Fifty years ago, Harlow was the queen of Philadelphia nightlife, Jack Kelly’s girlfriend, and the city's most famous transgender woman. Today, she’s ready to tell her story.

When you read Parker's skeet, it isn’t obvious to me that it isn’t responsive to the prompt. The design of the commentary invited a very diverse set of responses. I suspect it could’ve integrated the assigned reading more, but 0/25 and a comment about being “nasty” screams viewpoint discrimination.

I just uninstalled AC: Origins after completing Curse of the Pharaohs yesterday, and realized I had apparently spent over 100 hours in the game, but I'm sure less than half was on the actual story.

so much of this article applies to my experience with origins, and yet I still love the ac games lol

🧵I often get mobbed when I say this, but it was a mistake for liberals & leftists to cede "western civilization" to the fascists. "The West" and "Western" are important political identities. Abandoning them is no smarter than refusing to offer a positive vision of American national identity.

I really love how the times frames this (sarcastic) because they really try to frame and emphasize that it's going to be *trans people* who are accosted and questioned and possibly banned from these spaces...but it won't be. it'll be everyone. the article itself notes that the guidance says (1/2)

i really didn't like her interview with klein, but i also recognize that i'm not one of her constituents and that things like this are laudable
This is the hardest I have seen any member of Congress work to try and address transphobia in Congress, and her ability to get nearly all Democratic lawmakers to sign onto this letter is something any first would applaud

Both the original column and the interview are very thoughtful pieces about this moment in our culture. the desire to conform, to not rock the boat and to maintain status is very strong and I think present in everyone, but it is so crucial to recognize it, and buck it, to understand our own (1/2)

a former NYT columnist not understanding why a unit meant to enforce standards exists is a bit on the nose
“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.
