I dove so deep into this thread, for what now feels like hours, that as I finally reached the last post and returned to scrolling my favorites feed, I was shocked by the sudden lack of holiday lore. Brrr--it's chilly out here. I need more holiday shenanigans lore!
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore

I feel like we need this

These dogs, esp the one on the right, do not like the rain. (California natives.) And it's been raining all day. So, when Mz McGillicuddy came to announce it was time to walk, I suspected there was a break in the down pour. And there was. She timed it perfectly, as more is coming soon. Good girl!

Ahhhhh--just LOOK at all these nice, cool temps and multiple days of rain! The dogs aren't jazzed about the rain, but bring it on!

Also, the Fungi Friends feed. Such gorgeous closeups it doesn't matter if you like mushrooms or not.
Sorrel leaf and fairy inkcaps (Coprinellus disseminatus). My neighbor came outside to make sure I wasn’t having a medical emergency lying on the ground. Nope, just taking pictures. #FungiFriday 🍄 #mycology #fungi #nature #Photography

The Marine Life feed is fire. It delivers incredibly beautiful photos, along with terrifying new info, on the regular. I love it so 😍

Dick Cheney straight-up died rather than see a Muslim get elected mayor of NYC, we should have tried this years ago

968: the number of ways my brain tried to keep me in bed all day.

2: the number of lil dogs who told my brain to shut up and walk them already.

The dogs won.

Talking about a niece-in-law,

My wife "Oh, she loves you"

Me "she tolerates me"

Her "we all do"

Me ".....uh, thanks?"

Her <chuckle>

Gotta share so that they can give your eyes and soul a break from it all. Float away with them.

Neighbor came to our door. I didn't know she had her sweet lil dog with her, so I opened the door without restraining my dogs. My angelic mostly black dog attacked. My happy blonde dog took off to explore the 'hood. Cue the indignity if trotting after her braless. All are okay. But, whew.

I have been waiting and wishing long, cruel months for this day of delicious cool temps. So, tell me why 75°F felt *chilly* inside the house?! Have I already lost my PNW membership privileges? Am I a....<whispering> Californian now? (again) 😱😥

She has given us so much to laugh about, has taught us new things, and shared so much of her marvelous self. Give, if you can:
ok confession time

I’ve been in the ICU for most of the last week & I’m struggling so so so hard

the doctor has suggested I
get a dog to help me, but I cannot afford the cost of a hypoallergenic dog, let alone the cost of a service dog

do we think this is even worth the attempt to fundraise? y/n

<spoiler, The Substance> Hrmmm...definitely (TW) body horror. Gripping and interesting concept. Not loving the execution of the ending, tho it goes where it pretty much has to go. Do not watch if struggling with body dysmorphia. It's a scary depiction of how hating yourself can tear you apart.

Well, this was a rollicking good time! Hadn't seen anything about it, but love action movies. This one had me laughing a lot.

It's happening!!! IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!!! I am delivered, at long last, from the relentless heat of this summer. 81 F on Friday is actually a huge cool down, and it just gets better from there! 🥲

Watching Ancient Aliens has given me a new way to address the lewy bodies hallucinations: now I can say she's seeing parallel dimensions that I can't see (she's always been more open than me). Will it ease her fears? We'll see. #dementia

We taught our raccoons sign language and the first thing they said was "The trouble is, you think you have time.”

Throwing a temper tantrum because her sister is getting some attention. She carried on > than a minute before shouting at us. She was ~10 yo when we adopted her, so I don't know if someone taught her to take out her aggression this way. I just think it's adorable. RIP neat, tidy blankets...

Some sweet and funny for today:
Me to same owl handler: "Owls are super wise, right? They read loads of highbrow Russian literature and stuff, don't they?"

Owl handler: "No, they actually have very tiny brains, due to the hugeness of their eyes. In reality they are one of the thickest animals you could ever meet."
Almost certainly the best thing I was ever told about owls was when I met an owl handler at an owl sanctuary and he told me that the wild owls who lived near the sanctuary worried about the tame show owls there and sometimes stopped by to leave them shrews and mice as presents.
