Alright, so I've been afraid to say this out loud, but I think after today, I can say it: In the first Battle of Los Angeles, the good people of LA County have prevailed. We beat ICE back. 1/

I don’t think people really appreciate how much of a privilege it is to be able to literally be in public to voice your opposition to your government. It’s a right you have here and that’s very rare on the time scale of world history. And it’s kind of a use it or lose it situation.

WTF does it mean to be "liberated" from the leadership that we ourselves elected? Also thank you to @padilla.senate.gov for standing up for California!
Kristi Noem: "We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city."

Sen. Alex Padilla is then forcibly removed!

I've been wanting to tell my widowhood story publicly for years, but I know I don't have the kind of grief story people want to hear.

No community rallied, no family healed, no strength discovered.

I wrote about the gap between grief narratives and reality.

Why I Find It Hard to Write About Being a Widow
Why is it so hard to write about being a widow? My story has no redemptive arc. No community rallied, no family came together, no strength was discovered. Just sudden loss and ongoing adaptation witho...

Six-figure what, POUNDS?! THIS ENORMOUS MAN WILL DEVOUR US ALL!!
Me: I am a six-figure man. I farm my own land by HAND rather than with tractors. I own guns and knives. I have tactical gear and a fully kitted bug out bag. I run a 7.5 minute mile and can lift my body weight. I'm a feminist. Both the influencer and the young man are welcome to a sanctioned MMA bout

I have a pet theory that the Dem losses in the last decade can be chalked up to trying to play swing-state moneyball rather than pursuing a more fundamental ground-game 50-state strategy. Howard Dean figured it out as DNC chair in 2005, but all anyone remembers about him is YEAAHHHHHHH!!!!
None of these numbers and trends scream "we must repudiate what we stand for or we will never be in power again"
It's incredible that the losses and drops are all not so significant that I think they can be fixed without changing policy at all.

NEW: The Trump administration deported a 2-year-old U.S. citizen on Friday.

Hours later, a conservative judge who tried to intervene warned of his "strong suspicion" that the administration "just deported a U.S. citizen with no meaningful process."

The Bush administration disappeared people too, sent them to a different gulag at Gitmo and other black sites, kidnapped people off the street of Milan, tortured them, in the name of "a different kind of war."
We didn't come close to holding them accountable.
We're seeing the cost of that now.

It's way easier to delude oneself into believing that there was cheating involved rather than deal with the uncomfortable reality that the US electorate voted for this.
There is no more evidence of that than there was in 2020. Yelling on social media is not the same as evidence, nor are websites full of meaningless graphs coupled with extravagant, unsupported claims.

There's a disgustingly cruel irony in extrajudicially renditioning and permanently incarcerating people in a place that translates to "The Savior." Big "Arbeit macht frei" vibes.
New from me at Cato: with yesterday's developments in the Abrego Garcia case, it becomes clear that Donald Trump aims to create an offshore zone in which persons of his choosing can be whisked out of the U.S. and stripped of all constitutional rights, "beyond the writ of" the federal courts. /1
