you've heard about the college kids who can't do anything without ChatGPT's help—but what about the students who oppose generative A.I. for myriad reasons and refuse to rely on it as a shortcut? well, I found and spoke with a few of them here: slate.com/life/2025/07...

This is quite good. I’ll add to it that more than anything else, my writing skills were honed over nearly twenty years of student essays, from having the five paragraph style drilled into me in 1993 to finishing my dissertation in 2010. The mass revolt against developing this skill is devastating.
The Death of the Student Essay—and the Future of Cognition
One professor's reflections on the end of an era, as AI tools such as ChatGPT have murdered the student essay (RIP). Here's why that threatens the future of human cognition—and how to save ourselves.

No, it is not televised.

Everyone seems very worried about "Gosh, well what do we tell the transphobic people to get them to vote for Democrats?"

Tell them to get the fuck over it. Tell them, straight to their faces, "I feel embarrassed for you that this is a thing you are whining about."

Camping season started for us last weekend. Planning trips is keeping me sane right now. We mostly car camp, but will also base camp this year. I've been patiently collecting secondhand gear & dehydrating foods.

I got severely dehydrated last weekend. It was still better than looking at the news.

Stupid tariffs.
Tonight I learned that women generally have 7-9 bras. This makes sense, but wtf.
I currently have 3 properly fitting bras, plus one properly fitting sports bra. Tonight I ordered 4 more, with encouragement from Husband, because stupid tariffs are about to make it worse.
