Rebecca Heineman is a goddamn legend among women. She did SO much great stuff, from her impossible game ports, to tirelessly keeping the mac gaming scene alive, to making sure that the Kinect works when you're wearing a skirt, to making the worst version of DOOM kinda glorious in its own way.
My trailblazing game industry bad-ass friend Rebecca Heineman has passed away.

Fuck cancer.

Friends, let’s not forget her: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebecca...

Child marriage is heinous, but one thing I never see brought up in those discussions is that if you are under 18, you cannot file for divorce. If you are under 18 and married to an adult, they are your legal guardian and make decisions for you. That is not a partnership.
Most Minors Who Are Married Can't File for Divorce — Even if They Want To
The final installment of Wedlocked, our series about child marriage in the U.S., explores divorce.

Someone called this vice signaling and… *sigh* yeah.

The idea that individuals are going to be able to "negotiate" better rates with health insurers than the US government can is pants-on-head level absurd on its face
Cassidy: "The president is proposing that we take the $26b that would be going to insurance companies if we just do an extension and give it directly to the American people in which 100% of the money is used for them to purchase healthcare on their own terms. That makes them an informed consumer."

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.

If what a man has to offer a woman is nothing but a paycheck, then he's in danger of her trading up for someone with a bigger paycheck.

But if women don't *need* men, then you have more stability in your relationship. Because she picked you out of love.

This was a really fascinating episode of "Focus Group," but I was especially struck by how much young women say they don't *need* men.

This is treated as a problem by a lot of young men. But they really should be grateful — it's an opportunity.

Anyway: yes, read Disability Visibility. Read Demystifying Disability by Emily Ladau too. But if you want something hella basic, of 'why should I care'... I can't make you care. But I'm going to leave this link to the "Curb Cut" episode of 99% Invisible: 99percentinvisible.org/episode/curb...

My synagogue was doing talks on death, dying, & mourning in Jewish tradition this weekend. (And taharah, etc.) And I found out about the news for Alice Wong today.

On one hand, existence is resistance. On the other hand: who gets dignity in life, in death? Who gets to decide what 'a good life' is?

On LinkedIn I saw a few questions about how people did alt-text, & so there's... a lot of serendipity (?) in seeing this post too. I surprised people by pointing out how rare tabletop accessibility is, even compared to web, but Draw Steel (& some other studios and projects) are doing the effort.

We’re not doing “disability accommodations are unnecessary and unfair actually” discourse less than 24 hours after Alice Wong has passed. Absolutely the fuck not, even if it is a perfect example of the kind of shit disabled people have to deal with and why Alice’s activism was and is so necessary.

Alice Wong's last social post was about the firings at Teen Vogue, including her column Disability Visibility (which had led to the book).
The new owners of Teen Vogue have already erased her column.

and that was in the 90s

this is exactly how they conceptualize "AI"

AND that's how it's marketed.

HOLY SHIT. They found the genes for fibromyalgia - and it's *not* autoimmune, it's the central nervous system. It's very cool to see some progress made on the thing that's ruined my life since late teenage years!
Medical Republic: 'Fibromyalgia finally gets a genetic fingerprint'
