Absalom Jones was and is a legend of Black History, Episcopal history and American history. His legacy will never be erased. Born enslaved, he was a co-conspirator in helping form what we now know as the “Black Church”.

St. Thomas African Episcopal Church in Philly is his church.

Judge Biery signed the order with a photo of Liam and two bible verses: The first is "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." The second is simply "Jesus wept."

Astonishing thing for a judge to do.

"The real question here isn’t why Heated Rivalry is a hit—it’s why this kind of romance series is so rare in the first place."

The great @gavia.bsky.social returns to Fansplaining with an incisive piece on Heated Rivalry, romance publishing, and the TV industry. Read or listen to an audio version:
The Success of Heated Rivalry Should Not Be a Surprise — Fansplaining
Romancelandia understands why the show is a hit. Why is it so hard for Hollywood to get the message?

You couldn't pay me to click on an article by a TERF in the NYTimes about Harry Potter, but I'll note that Gen Z seems to be largely responsible for the fact that ~10% of the top 100 ships on AO3 last year were HP, so perhaps let's not take the suggestion that they're rejecting it at face value.

video is out there. I watched it. I do not advise watching it. the description Will has here is correct.

I would describe "being shot five times while 2-3 people hold you down" as an execution

congrats, ICE. you found the bridge and you sprinted across.
Initial report is that two observers got into a shoving match with eight agents, one observer was wrestled to the ground, and then an ICE agent pulled out a sidearm and shot the man on the ground five times.

Let's celebrate the Feast of the Ass like our medieval forebears: by remembering that the Holy Family were refugees, that the lowliest contribute lots, & bymaking fun of people in power!

(I won't say "hee haw" instead of "ite missa est" today but only cause my congregation is not terminally online)
So: happy... er, yes, well, happy this most holy of days to all who celebrate

I know this is hijacking a fun post with a serious point, but: the Feast of the Flight into Egypt is a commemoration of the fact that Jesus and his parents fled to Egypt as refugees, which should be more often remembered, particularly by those who say they want to defend the West’s Christian values.
So: happy... er, yes, well, happy this most holy of days to all who celebrate

Given the current horrors, I need to leaven things a little by reporting that the herd has a new member whose arrival I forgot to announce: Balaam (thanks to @acblume.bsky.social)
So far the herd is: Lamby (the original, my beloved, from my childhood), Sheepy, Agnes, Cordero, Jesús and (new today) Baaathsheba.

I guess the good news is that the parable of the good shepherd is gonna hit for sure...

Again to post about something other than the horrors I need everyone to know that @somafm.com has a "classic groove salad" channel so that you can EXACTLY RECREATE the experience of being a teenager on a bondi blue iMac listening to chill music in the middle of the night in 2002

Fandom is not in fact "the new religion"!! This is an excruciatingly basic take!! Fandom moralism has roots in US Protestant moralism and black-and-white thinking because of the outsize influence that US fans and media have, not because it is anything like actual religious practice!!
