Thank you for your lifetime of inspiring others, Jane. This quote of hers is not only my favorite quote in general, but it's one that I use when giving presentations to people to encourage them to do what they can, where they can, to protect the earth.

I love the photo they used of Jay Silverheels. He has that “ugh, Lone Ranger’s on his bullshit again” look on his face ictnews.org/news/lest-we...

@ecosozialismus.bsky.social This quote made me think of the same gang here in Portland: “If the mayor and the business community aren’t aligned, nobody’s going to win” (of course when they say this, they mean the mayor getting aligned with business and absolutely not the other way around.)
Don't sleep on Michelle Wu, one of this country's most quietly effective climate leaders, cruising to a second term in Boston. It's telling that business interests tried and failed to stop her and are pouting about it now

One of my favorite movie scenes ever. Rewatching it just now, I noticed how everyone was smiling, exuberant, or inspired — the only frown was from the bad guy. RIP Robert Redford youtu.be/i94ldGNNSQ0?...

So curious that the same people screeching “you can’t judge us for the actions of our ancestors” are the same people who are completely fine with using “we” when meting out historical violence www.krmg.com/news/local/p...

Of course Portland could bring it. We were somewhere in the middle of the length and as we were crossing the Hawthorne bridge, we could still see people coming under the bridge on the route and over to the Morrison Bridge, which was full, too! #nokings

I wonder if I could switch out of my middle seat if I lie to the person in the aisle: “Just to forewarn you, I just had prostate surgery and have a bladder infection, so I might have to get you up so I can use the toilet a dozen or times during this flight”

Fun fact: Until fourth grade, I thought a fire drill was a drill that used fire and was so dangerous, all the kids had to leave the school building whenever the workers used it. I’d always peer up and down the halls on the way outside in hope of seeing it.
Fun fact: until I was appreciably into my 20s, I thought they were called oncologists because they were always “on call.”
i was unaware of how many oncologists were on this website

I remember watching my first Eurovision contest when I lived in Norway during the early 90s. It was like a pure dopamine rush coming out of the screen full of catchy music, people exuberantly performing, and just a spectacle of fun
Eurovision has earned its reputation as a gloriously over-the-top spectacle—equal parts kitsch, camp, and confetti. But beneath the sequins lies a celebration of European liberalism. Meredith Blake unpacks the history of the continent’s most flamboyant singing competition.

Not to be too pro technocrat, but it is astounding how much this country depended on the selflessness of like a few hundred thousand highly educated public servants who, for peanuts, made sure our food and medicine and environment etc were safe. And in return these servants were demonized.

At this juncture I’d like to point out:
* we’re on the brink of a golden age of medical healing
* there’s enough money in the world to solve every problem in the world
* a united approach could stop the climate crisis
But a small group of sociopaths seeking personal power are going to throw it away.
