Taxpayers Union's pressure campaign in local councils forges the way for toxifying politics, but also privatising local assets. Increasingly, our govt and its allies are pushing us to a foreign ownership model while feigning care for Kiwis. V. dangerous game.

The Taxpayers Union approach here is: - They identify and support aligned Councillors (their support is material, e.g ads, posters etc as they promise) - They then run attack ads against anyone who isn't aligned - This poses three specific threats: a) It intimidates others who are running from e.g. contradicting TPU's policy wishes b) intimidates many "normal people" from local govt because who wants to operate in that type of toxic, high pressure environment for just serving your community and c) It could potentially help TPU aligned Councillors into local government - If they can get enough of this happening, local govt is now "infiltrated" with their puppets - This is essentially about local control - It will then smooth the road for Simon Watts to impose laws on councils, it will toxify local politics more than ever (they just need 1-2 of their people to ruin a whole committee) and finally it will make it easier for Chris Bishop etc to privatise govt assets as he has sent people to start this process already

The actual dilemma is that if we arbitrarily start pumping 2% of GDP scale $ into military industrial tech and personnel (not that bureaucratic/management capacity exists to support such a rapid increase) it demonstrates that all the austerity and “can’t afford” rhetoric is completely fake.
