This is a great take on what happened for Banned Books Week in many places.
What happened in libraries during Banned Books Week?

Turns out, there was a lot of banning of Banned Books Week, period.

A look at what happened across the country and why.

That, plus this week's *extensive* book censorship news.

The Banning of Banned Books Week: Book Censorship News, October 31, 2025
Banned Books Week is being quietly banned in public libraries across the US. This is a political choice in an era where libraries continue to claim being "not political."

BEING MADISON
High school is hard, especially if you’re a shapeshifting monster just trying to fit in. Madison has enough on her plate just resisting the urge to eat the school bully, but when another one of her kind shows up, her life quickly spirals out of control. #2025pit #YA

I didn't realize just how bad it had become until I was looking up some reference pictures for drawing with my daughter and everything is uncanny valley AI slop

Great resource!
GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references.

Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.

Beshear knows intuitively what so few Dems grasp.

You can take political decisions that are politically controversial, and even SHOULD, if it fits in your value set.

Voters prefer candidates who are genuine and are more willing to forgive positions than lack of sincerity.

What sold me on Bluesky vs Threads or any of the other Twitter replacements is that it is actually a conversation platform.

I have no interest in One-to-Many platforms like Instagram where you are basically posting a thing then people comment on it and you ignore their comments.

I like chat.

Just finished reading Lady Tan's Circle of Women and it both engaging and terrible history. Like a lot of western writers, Lisa See fetishizes a subservient, oppressed version of Chinese women.

The book Tan Yuxian wrote about her own life and work directly contradicts so much of this novel.

They came for the culture already out first.
If you are a writer, artist or other creative person and you are wondering if what you do still matters...

...this is a culture war. Which means that you are on the front line. You matter more than ever.
