Imma need some of you to think about thriving out of spite. I had big plans for 2025 and I’m definitely not gonna pre-derail them for likes of Elin and Tromp. I’m getting more involved. Loving harder. Writing hornier. Having more fun. I’m gonna be so kind to my neighbors, bitch.

Spite is such a spectacular motivator for me. Most of my accomplishments wouldn’t have happened if it hadn’t been for, “Oh yeah? Well, I’ll show them….”

Just be you. Be your authentic self. Joke, talk about stuff that fascinates you, the things you love, that you hope for & your passions. Connect with ppl honestly. Be brave enough to be authentic and open to others doing the same.

It’s as important to read poets who you are pretty sure would ignore or hate you as to read kind souls who would never say a thing against you

Hey y'all, I know it's tough right now, but we got each other and that means a hell of a lot. When you're feeling down, remember there are a whole lot of people standing beside you.

What an achievement vaccines are. What a monument to our love for each other it is to stare straight into the face of something as horrific and unstoppable as smallpox or measles or polio or cervical cancer and say “You know what, it doesn’t have to be like this.”

HUMANS!

Let’s kick off with a writing tip: if you’re writing a chapter and you get to the stage where you feel tired of writing it, that’s exactly the place where your reader will start checking how many pages are left. Chapters have a natural rhythm in terms of length. Listen to your subconscious.

Public Libraries can be wonderful places where children and adults can find books that they can see themselves reflected in, no matter who they are, and books that can introduce them to entire other lived experiences. Both are so valuable!

It’s never too late – I was 44 when my debut poetry collection was published – I’d been writing poems forever. I’ve published 8, 9th on the way. And my debut novel, linked with my poems. Earth is rejuvenated by spring, creativity keeps you young. Don’t give up, just keep renewing yourself & your art

If you can write a poem, creating your own world, you can survive. It doesn’t have to be a good poem, but it’s yours and no one can hurt you while you are in its world. It’s like a secret passage from danger, from prison. This is how I got through my teenage. There was no coming of age for me

A friendly reminder that making your fictional characters in the Sims is NOT the same as writing your story… (this is a callout post to myself)

While ebooks are potentially better for long term preservation because you can reproduce them trivially, physical books never run out of battery

I like that a lot about physical books
