#Queer writer of #YA and speculative fiction. Expect lots of Star Trek references. Failing to meet the demands of capitalism since 1969. Can I pet your dog? https://linktr.ee/rickerje and https://ko-fi.com/jeffreyricker
This story is so wonderful! Read it if you’ve ever felt misunderstood, even by (maybe especially by) yourself.
Reading 2025 fiction? Try the short story "Six People to Revise You" by J. R. Dawson!

November isn’t too early to start talking about queer holiday romance, is it? Fifteen-holidays, chosen-family, will-they-won’t-they novella, complete with hunky mermaid ornaments?

My favorite character in my WIP? Probably Greg, the love interest for our grumpy protagonist. He’s a relentlessly cheerful man who looks like a shorter, hairier version of this guy. #FirstDraftFall

True story: My friend Karen was reading my novel when her husband walked in the room and clocked it, and asked: “ Who’s the sizzle chest on the cover?”

I have no idea, but I’d like to thank him for his service. #WriterSky #QueerBooks

My students recommended I watch “Lost in Starlight” so I blame them for why I’m crying tonight. This song in particular, but watch the movie if you have Netflix. It’s wonderful.

I think at this stage it’s more about reminding myself to make this a priority. It’s way too easy to let everything else take precedence over the one thing I actually care about. #WeeknightWriters #FirstDraftFall

Let’s call it cautiously optimistic. However, I’m already looking ahead to the second draft and thinking how the love interest needs a good deal more depth. And maybe adding some second-act complications. #WeeknightWriters #FirstDraftFall

S.H.I.T.—So Happy It’s Thursday. I’m Jeff, I’m working on a queer holiday romcom for #FirstDraftFall, and progress seems to have stalled. It’s usually a sign I need to refill the well or I’m not sure what to do next. Or, what I think I need to do is boring me, so: don’t do that. #WeeknightWriters
