After this weekend's racist attacks on the EU, I've written a column about the moral obligation to stop posting on X.

Oh no, wait, I wrote it *two years ago* when it was blatantly obvious what was going on and how it would get much much worse.

Maybe not months, but I would be surprised if Starmer was leading Labour into next election. He's losing too much support by chasing Reform. He's making the same errors as Conservatives did, by focusing on attacking marginalised groups rather than making lives better.

Sir Keir Starmer could be ousted as PM within months, two senior Labour MPs tell Sky News
A member of the government and a prominent MP said Sir Keir Starmer could be ousted unless Labour has a strong showing in May's elections.

Incredibly depressing day. I've spent my entire life being told by British governments how dreadful immigration is. New Labour did it. The Coalition. The Brexiters. Now Starmer. All of them accusing the ones who came before them of failing to clamp down. The same old vacant mean-spirited bollocks.

On social care, there *is* a reasonable argument for limiting/reducing the care visa *if* - as she says - it's linked to a proper pay/workforce strategy.

But governments have said that before and failed to deliver. That's why we have a care visa in the first place..

The claim by Yvette Cooper that there is a link between immigration and higher levels of inactivity (related to sickness and disability) has absolutely no basis in evidence or data.

Just retrofitting the evidence to the policy...

The debate around care visas in the political space boils down to people saying stuff like this - we desperately need people.

It's a good soundbite but...

A significant surge in care visas were issued since 2020 in response to sector demand and yet the problem of shortage has persisted.

Why?
BREAKING: “We will be closing the care worker visa for overseas recruitment” - Home Secretary Yvette Cooper

Don’t we have a desperate shortage of care workers?

3. The sector IMO is poorly regulated. Bad actors are prominent and exploit people. I've spoken to many many people over the past 12 months, the issue is real & significant. The government is supporting tens of thousands of people who've been displaced/exploited/ripped off into new jobs

So it's not simply "we need these people, give them visas" it's been tried and has been a disaster. The sector needs a massive monetary and skills injection, serious regulation with the support of overseas workers with an immigration system that compliments and supports/protects migrants.

Thousands of people wanting to work in care are stuck in the UK. Lots of jobs that won't fit their visa type. A big additional problem is the need for people to drive - most people on the health and care visa don't have licences and need to learn/pass test que driving test shortage.

The desperate response in 2020 for care workers (COVID etc.) saw the creation of a business model for criminals to exploit tens of thousands of people into paying for visas to come to the UK. It also saw the creation of conditions for modern slavery / exploitation. The answer is not more visas.

Let’s take a closer look.

First, the sign itself:

Badly formatted, cheap-looking, and includes a lowercase “i” in “Islamic area”

All pretty big red flags! 🚩

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.
