Jaded but curious. Worried about people, bees and temperatures. Mostly harmless.

Great to hear Nick Robinson and #r4today platforming (and giving a nice easy ride) to the French far right National Front politician, allowing him to spout pure racist filth and hatred, and letting him praise Farage to the heavens without challenging him on antisemitism and Islamophobia… 🙄😒🤦🏻‍♂️

Labour are digging their own grave attempting to appease Farage with cruelty & demonisation of minorities.
His voters are never going to switch allegiance whilst everyone jumps on his every word, the only way to get through to people is by dismantling his views & improving people’s lived experience.

the thing about not having an algorithm here is it's ok to have one fucking place that's not a popularity contest. we have the nielsen ratings. we have the charts. we have meta. everything is is already a popularity contest and it fucking sucks, globally. we can have one place where you vibe it out

Something I hate now is that every place you even think about shopping at sends you three emails a week.

We could just be reading great books, watching good movies, and eating fruit. Instead we have to survive/fight miserable power hoarders. What a waste of limited time.

UK Labour pins its hopes for economic growth on leading the world in cooking the planet.

But what if "GDP growth" is orthogonal to "quality of life" and even antithetical to human survival on Earth? 🌏

"Let's not get caught up in language" says Kemi Badenoch's spokesperson.

If we are actually to analyse the political statements of the leader of the opposition, language is all we have.

Unless perhaps from now on Badenoch intends to express herself through the medium of contemporary dance.

What if the reason we have more staff in the Civil Service is because we're using them to increase automation and it takes extra people to do that? Removing people will not create automation. Trying to add AI will create a need for more staff to do it (even before discussing AI substance vs spin).

My Christmas routine.
November. Ignore it.
Early December. "Ah lovely Christmas is soon" in a warm glow listening to carols and songs.
About now, hyperventilating "Arghhh no no no there is no time and no weekends left the calendar is insane when are we going to do anything?!"

"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" well, ideally I was hoping to be curious, research, create stuff and enjoy beauty but apparently it's actually forever triaging emails until I die.
I hope this one wild and precious life finds you well.

Yesterday, I shared this same Canada Day thread on Bluesky, Threads, and X. Here's what I found. 🧵
“Canada is such a northern country, don’t we want a little global warming?” I often hear.

In a nutshell, NO.

We’re warming 2x faster than the rest of the world, driving extreme heat, flood, and sea level rise we are not prepared for. The wildfire season started in Feb this year. Feb!

I have a fervent belief that Chrissie Hynde’s song for The Living Daylights was intended as the opening title theme but the cowards at EON decided to swap it out for A-ha for commercial reasons, wanting another pop hit. The song lines up nicely with the Maurice Binder titles
