from 2005 to 2020, I was lucky to be based in SF, Paris, and Moscow. thus, many concerts with a camera (vs audio recording previously).

this is damning. indeed, I should retire from Social Networks.

what is striking to me is the use of "indeed" showing up. indeed, it is puzzling.

way to kill the plot and dramatic scene at the trial. the whole intent was to find out who called the Code Red.

also, after a trillion dollars there is a Code Red? how does that play into the next trillion?

"How could you *not* hate maths!?"

(the good is that once I am asked about profession, I know there will be only one more question, at most... or end of conversation.)
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

I really couldn't care less for guitarist virtuosos.

yeah, Gilmour and Page I rather like and actually listen to their work... more so appreciating Gilmore's emotional playing.

after all that, this is freakin' impressive and emotional.

I wish people will learn about modern criteria:

it is rather standard procedure that if anyone aces a cognitive test, an MRI is needed to verify that the brain is still there (and activated).

otherwise, there can be some Ai+LLM cheatin' happenin'

I used to write the Sunday Salons--essays about photographers as a prompt for #photography discussions.

This piece, from 2007, is on Ralph Meatyard--one of those WTF photographers (which, okay, isn't an actual genre of photography, but ought to be).

this. there needs to be a federalisation of multinationals, as it has been absurd in 10 years to build up apps/services in:

.com (usa only)
.fr
.se
.es

(skipped using .ru )
I keep wondering when the EU is going to get these companies to behave as if they were in a single market. Where is Amazon.eu? Apple.eu?
Thiiiisss.
I had /have issues with Amazon, Ebay, Apple AND Audible because I moved countries. Digital world my a**.

Still can’t get certain apps, had to close and reopen accounts because they can’t change things, it’s beyond absurd.

(looking at this as the biggest shift in musical genre-- conveniently removing The Police's « Zenyatta Mondatta »)

there was not one album: a epochal moment when a Freshman year roommate played Joy Division's « Closer », followed by Wire's « Pink Flag ».

a bizarre double album, perhaps.
At 15, I listened to rock, hard rock, and glam rock.

Then I heard "Young, Loud and Snotty," the debut album by The Dead Boys, at a friend's house.

Listen → buy → forever in my heart

I have been quite on the sidelines of the "influencer" phenom.

have they taken the place of previous (American-centric?) role-models? or commercials? or mix of both?

if so, this is may be a plus: they have no skeletons in the closet for a downfall. well, yeah, they have no skeletons.
The entire Instagram "influencer" model is basically dead. Why bother posing in a hipster coffee shop when the AI can gin up the image for free in two minutes?
this image was generated with google's latest nana banana pro tool. we have no idea how bad it is about to get.

unexpected Top 5, but this is the right answer.

(Take 3 is an elusive reference, but lost in the bliss.)

3. "Soon."

sure, music at-the-time is a great experience, and « Movement » took a beating.

however, it is a wonderful internet thing to have these reviews (and distracting from news).

they are revisionists and/or to justify their love for the album (heretical in its day)— a wonder to read.

anatomy normalcy is not the most important human feature lost among these people, ...

but if that is their gravest concern, save some money and get the silly red hat: it broadcasts the same message to everyone else.

in the name of National Security, Americans will learn to make pasta.

(Social Networks are going to revert to the times of making bread during the Covid shutdown.)

obv to noone is Unknown Pleasures. all others I know/heard are also top records: 1. B52s; 2. The Clash; 3. Stiff Little Fingers; 4. Gang of Four.

these memes (and site) reminds me how little I paid to punk itself.

(sorely missing here Is Pere Ubu… now coming to believe is the most important band.)

1979 was also a year with great punk rock, post-punk, and ska albums.

Here's a selection—is your favorite among them?

Mine is definitely Ramones - It's Alive
