"Create a culture […] that gives its inhabitants a sense of purpose, self-worth, usefulness, and enlarge that culture over time, until it becomes a viable alternative to the status quo."
looking back at all that happened in the last month and how some key communication has changed, i'm increasingly convinced that this is the case
My general sense of this entire week is: Bluesky is under immense pressure from the USG to come to heel or be shutdown. Everything from recent moderation decisions to Jay’s public statements could be seen as an attempt to stave off this outcome while encouraging rapid decentralization.

In the most frustrating moments, no matter what is happening, never become radicalized against people. Become radicalized against the problem domain. Hate the sin, hate the conditions that made sinners out of us, but love people.

the current anti-tech sentiment is spiraling into something incredibly bad.
the mask is already slipping. and it’s not only about the tech itself anymore.

for fuck's sake, no, bsky is not selectively moderating against trans people, if anything, some people have done a lot of behaviour that according to the letter of the rules would result in permabans, and yet they're getting 24h strikes and being let back on because of community pressure.

Got bad news: woke up to several different messages explaining how there are no atproto services other than Bluesky! We regret to inform you that Streamplace seems to have retrocausally never even ever existed. Our top chronomancers are on the case.

the people saying proposing federation as a solution to those angry about blue sky's moderation decisions are, I feel, somewhat missing the point

federation doesn't solve their grievances because they don't want different moderation, they want people they don't like to be punished by an Authority

Es rettet uns kein höheres Wesen
Kein Gott, kein Kaiser, noch Tribun
Uns aus dem Elend zu erlösen
Können wir nur selber tun

Consumerism is kind of undeniably a political system, and we get twisted because of that unacknowledged frame

People have tangibly expressed more political power as a customer than they ever have with voting. It comes off as learned helplessness that they can’t perceive themselves as anything else

Harassing the mods into banning someone has never worked. And harassing people in general has never changed their mind.

Adding on it, a rabid community. @graze.social went viral because @natalie.sh saw feeds emitting with our domain name, and shared it in the dev community. We all see each others work, and we're actively looking to build together. Once you're on the map, you're on the team, and working together.

annoying "the admins" until your pet peeve moderation decision is enacted against established processes, guidelines and/or terms of service, is mastodon behaviour.

organise, setup and turn around infrastructure for your community, or at least stop being a dipshit to the people doing this for you.

More folks are starting to design Lexicon schemas from scratch, which is great! This is particularly driven by ecosystem projects like Slices and microcosm which make it easier to work with AT netw...

WAFFLES etc is an elaborate plot to further accelerate decentralization, by pissing off the parts of the user base that are mainly responsible for derailing productive discourse and destroying the vibes, pushing the status quo from whining at the mods, towards community driven action.

slay queen.

What you're refering to as Bluesky, is in fact, AT Protocol/Bluesky, or as I've recently taken to calling it, ATProto+Bsky. Bsky is not a decentralised system unto itself, but rather another free Appview for a functioning ATProto system made useful by the PDS, Relay and vital network components…

after a month of svelte+kit, there is still this desire to do a solid.js rewrite. can't even point to an overly specific reason, except personal taste in how reactivity is expressed.
