a coworker brought up a tweet in a work meeting today and had to scroll past a promoted post with a racial slur and an ad for some kind of workout powder specifically for white nationalists. everyone on that site has their own reason to stay, but a lot of those reasons are uhhh pretty bad

we have a president with a tenuous grip on small legislative majorities who is out of the gate with a flurry of dramatically unpopular orders and who has just demonstrated his weakness on the international stage. if i were an elected member of his domestic opposition, i might try to draw real blood.

I fully believe that there's a direct line you can draw from South Park popularizing the "oh it's okay to be racist/transphobic/antisemitic if you're targeting everyone equally" school of thought to the current Joe Rogan mindrot hellscape
