British "debate" on migration is in the gutter, but we should still be shocked that Labour's response yesterday was to criticise Farage for being insufficiently detailed in his plan for mass detention camps.
Regardless of whether Reform's deportation plan "works", if they get a chance to try it - like the Tories' Rwanda policy, or Trump's deportations - it will ostentatiously torment thousands of people and further engrain racism in British politics. It must be opposed on that basis.

I like to remind people that Enoch Powell got fired by his Tory PM Ted Heath in 1968 and never had a cabinet position again, and the Times called it an “evil speech”. Now we get great replacement theory in the Times and politicians including Labour advocating for ethnic cleansing on a daily basis

I wish JK Rowling a moment of true, blistering clarity of that sort that destroys her self image and sense of purpose. Also bolts of lightening, and that the HBO series crashes and burns. That's psychological, physical and financial harm I'm wishing.

The thing about this macho pronouncement is it won’t make houses more affordable and also British people very strongly feel that the environment is at risk including Reform voters so it’s a loser of a policy

i am super biased here because i am an academic and would like to continue to be one *but* i do feel there comes a point where you have to ask yourself what the point of ‘the economy’ is if it doesn’t support education or healthcare or the arts or housing or food or water and utilities
not an original observation but i was just explaining that the UK higher ed sector is in a bad financial position to my mum (who’s lived in austria all her life) and it is actually a very strange thing to explain that the ‘education sector’ is struggling

We don't all have the same number of bones or muscles. There's an average, I guess. We all kind of cluster around it. Some muscles are pretty rare. Some people just invent their own artisanal bones.
