The special live episode of ER (Abmush s04e01) on Amazon Prime Video has a totally messed up aspect ratio. Spent a total of about 30 minutes discussing with Amazon and they can't do anything, it's up to the content owner apparently.

Pretty frustrating a video service can't fix bad encoding.

...the video capture device arrived, it works perfectly in Ubuntu, and OBS can record from it no problem, of course I don't want to use OBS really, so I scripted getting it recording with ffmpeg...

Spent ages writing an ansible role to get the TL866IIplus eprom programmer installed (which requires 32 bit wine), ended up dead in the water. Installed it in windows instead (supposed to be a gaming only computer) and programmed the EPROM in about 5 minutes...

I need a USB (a or c) HDMI video capture device for a Linux laptop. I'm capturing output in the unusual (well, unusual these days) resolution of 1280x1024 at 50/60hz, apparently not all capture devices will support this res, so I'm stumped on what to buy to avoid just throwing money down the drain.

Lately, any time I'm reading a book and someone makes tea, especially if they are making it for someone else, I get an overwhelming urge to have a tea

I've just finished reading a book (More Days at the Morisaki Bookshop) which really spoke to me at a deep level.

Somehow it managed to bring the grief of losing my mum back in absolute full force, in a way I haven't felt since the night she died. I felt like grief was back to consume me...

What's with the terrible gaudy colour schemes on many of the ai products. I've had MS copilot enabled on me this week, and Google pushed Gemini out to my phone replacing the old assistant, it's all so horrendously gaudy, how about tone the colours down a bit, or are you trying to hypnotoad us

Sigh, time to pay for the awful DAZN service again means seeing their false advertising that you can watch 2 streams in 1 location. No DAZN, not 1 location if you use IPv6, since they actually mean from a single IP address. Other providers have sane limits for ipv6 (like from a /64 block).

Had a regularly scheduled eye test today. Good news, they are still eyes. Bad news, I'm starting to go long sighted as well as short sighted. Good news, the optometrist said as long as I've got enough arm to hold the books far enough away I don't need varifocals 🤣

Love my local opticians! ❤️

Every visit to the local libraries is a delight.

I'm especially overjoyed today that when I walked in the librarian immediately said "Oh we have a reservation for you"

I love that they just knew who I was and they had a reservation for me and grabbed it from some big shelves full of reservations.

My occasional reminder that you can configure Bluesky to make you enter alt text when posting an image.

Please bear in mind that without alt text blind users have no idea what's in the photo and this is particularly frustrating when the photo is actually just text that could have been in the post.
You can set up Bluesky to make alt-text mandatory when posting a picture:

Please get vaccinated if you aren't already.
Thanks to @profstevegriffin.bsky.social for highlighting. Horrendous to hear about babies born with congenital measles which is life threatening and can be life changing if survived. Mums were not vaccinated so please do check and consider vaccinating yourself if pregnant
