Welcome new followers! I'm a historian of medieval Europe. I've published on late medieval persecution of heresy (and medieval persecution in general). I also research medievalism—how the Middle Ages have been understood, imagined, and used since (including in Russia, the focus of my latest book).
We’re dangerously close to Musk’s mommy chiding Joyce Carol Oates for being mean to her precious boy…
I think this one has got to him because he's posted at least three separate responses to this over the last 10 hours:

Food insecurity is ALWAYS a political choice. Famine is ALWAYS manmade. People go hungry because of other people’s decisions. We have more than enough food for everyone, and enormous amounts of it are wasted—literally thrown in the garbage—on purpose.

I think this is a crucial point to stress! Platner’s tattoo is not some obscure symbol co-opted by the Nazis and then promptly forgotten. It’s literally one of the most recognizable symbols associated with the SS and Nazi Germany. It’s literally in Mitchell & Webb “Are we the baddies?” sketch!!!

I honestly don't think centrists believe anything at all. Just as I don't want to see a "mainstream" presidential candidate who hounds homeless people and abandons trans people, I don't want a "progressive" Senator with a Nazi tattoo. The uprights aren't narrow here. This shouldn't be hard.

It should go without saying but as a great-grandson of a Holocaust survivor (and a human being), I absolutely do not want to be in the same "big tent" party with somewhat who has a fucking Totenkopf tattooed on their chest (in addition to Platner's many other problematic sides).
