it's so easy to fall into this trap with sci-fi, sometimes you have to remember that a lot of the best sci-fi arises from imagining something and going "damn that would be crazy" and then seeing what follows from that premise

one of my longstanding takes is that car manufacturers should be forced to install mandatory speed limiters in every new vehicle and people react to that like I'm advocating to strip them of their right to free speech
