Academics are always seen as a threat in authoritarian regimes. We're among the first to be attacked--along with journalists, librarians. We're independent sources of knowledge, we think critically, we are viewed as powerful because we teach. Know your value, know why you're a threat. Be bold. 🥰

I love libraries. As a latchkey kid I basically grew up in my local library. As an adult, finding my books in the library is how I knew I had made it as a writer. Please use and support your local library, they're incredibly important to your community and to the country.
I always love when authors speak approvingly of libraries.

I mean, I'd LIKE to be able to buy a copy of every book I've ever liked, but in between financial and spatial requirements ...

So, yeah, the library is where it's at. For this, and many other reasons.

Humans hoped she would become a benevolent dictator, but haha, she enjoys her power and is Machiavellian in thoughts. Responds well to extra treats, can be very sweet to human, and does not care if she becomes a butterball. Fudz!

This guy is so sweet. He's a big lovebug.

Though did demonstrate his fast claws last night, when human petted him not quite in the way he preferred. Oops!

One thing I miss about Twitter, which benefited me tremendously, is it was a place for early career scientists to celebrate good news (a publication, a grant, an award) and get their name out there.

Early career scientists of Bluesky, share some good professional news! I’ll re-post! 🧪🌎🦑

One of the arguments in Plessy is that states are free to impose their “moral standards” on classes of citizens without federal interference. That logic remind you of any other recent rulings? bsky.app/profile/jbou...
one thing to remember is that the central holding in plessy v. ferguson was not “segregation good” but that the constitution neither recognized social inequality as a fact in the world nor gave courts the power to remedy it. the constitution, under plessy, could neither see nor touch racism.

the basic belief of virtually all elected republicans is that any vote for a democrat is inherently fraudulent and illegitimate. merely casting a ballot for biden marks that ballot as "fraud" and subject to removal.
