I will not let this RuSans/Sweetwater/ABC erasure go unchallenged
In Atlanta in 2005 it was hard to get craft beer or sushi, there was no soccer team or no stadium, no DoorDash/Waymo, even no Twitter/Bluesky…

They could have just bought t-bills! But they had to get greedy
might just rival SBF for the biggest bag fumble of all time. I guess the thing about crypto is the way to make money is skimming from the true believer morons, but the people who end up running crypto "companies" are the same true believer morons

On the other hand, my kid has beaten me three games to zero so let’s hold off on that for a bit
I got a Dominion set for my birthday, just putting it out there
as the husband of a mahjong addict, dudes need to identify an activity that can be done relatively easily in groups with minimal financial commitment so they can get out of the house for 2-3 hours on a school night, have two beers, and shoot the shit with their buddies.

It won't be mahjong tho.

Turning a giant dial that says “brain rot“ and looking back at the total addressable market like a contestant on the price is right
The company essentially turned a dial that made ChatGPT more appealing and made people use it more, but sent some of them into delusional spirals.

OpenAI has since made the chatbot safer, but that comes with a tradeoff: less usage.

Shocked myself in a demo in physics 2 in highschool, I was fascinated by it.

Five years later, took a class with the worst professor I ever had, still enjoyed the material.

One year after that, I had all my job offers except one withdrawn, in a little preview of the Great Recession.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

we are definitely not going to make more electrons, I can tell you that much
I laughed at loud. These people are so pathetic; our enemies are numbskulls. They will kill us all and still not know hs physics.

COWEN: The stupidest question possible: Why don’t we just make more GPUs?

ALTMAN: Because we need to make more electrons.

I think of Steve Jobs’ vision of a computer as a “bicycle for the mind”, amplifying natural abilities and extending capacity, but not pretending that it will supplant all of life

TIL that North Texas had a great year in one of the greatest years for jazz, very on-brand
North Texas is ranked in the AP Poll for the first time since 1959, snapping the longest active streak between poll appearances among FBS teams.

That now falls to New Mexico State, last ranked in 1960. Then Rice, last in 1961.

Meeting this person and understanding how brilliant he was/is changed my view on this, one more point for public school
I have a friend who needed accommodations in engineering undergraduate- once he got them, he did well and is very successful professionally. The alternative is him literally flunking out, how is that better for anyone?

“A gold medal is a wonderful thing, but if you’re not enough without the medal, you’ll never be enough with it” - Irv Blitzer, “Cool Runnings”
It’s pretty normal to think “well, if I had what they had, *I’d* be happy and at peace”. But anyone who’s hung around rich and powerful people knows that like 80% of them are in existential pain/misery about something.
