Being among the first interrogated and ultimately fired by DOGE, I certainly felt we were facing the business end of a right-wing conspiracy theory 🧵
DOGE was not a money-saving effort. It was an effort to chase down and prove right-wing conspiracy theories. They went after USAID to prove conspiracy theories about foreign aid. Then they went after SSA to, again, pursue conspiracy theories about Dems paying "illegals" to vote. 1/2
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail

I am generally (inaccurately) considered a hypist on this site because I do applied AI/ML stuff as a scientist. But I 100% agree. I _wish_ all of the “ocean-boiling lie machine” energy was focused on morally obliterating image and video gen, which have few legit (and zero compelling) use cases.

the “thanksgiving food is bad” discourse raises its ugly head every year, but the truth remains that thanksgiving food can be amazing as long as you know how to cook. the problem is we’re throwing a few million sunday drivers directly into a grand prix
I think this is unfair to turkey. turkey is good but hard to cook well because it is so damn big. turkey *parts* are great but lack the esthetic appeal of a centerpiece bird.

I feel like a lot of people on here are calling trump-epstien ties "glonzo", aka an entirely made up conspiracy, for no good reason?

Some monsters are real! Trump is clearly one of them!

There are no accurate genetic tests for bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. Take from that what you will about what I think about the decision to highlight those w.r.t. fucking Hitler
Exclusive: Adolf Hitler’s DNA has been sequenced by scientists

It has:
- shown he had a disorder which impacted his sexual development
- debunked rumours about his ancestry
- shown a high likelihood that he had a neurodivergent condition and/or bipolar disorder

The switch 2 costs exactly the average of all nintendo's home consoles at launch adjusted for inflation. It's cheaper than the SNES, N64, and Wii U
video games already are one hundred dollars. the switch 2 costs half a grand lol

I've seen Zohran talk about this before, but this answer is so so so good and makes me so hopeful about his mayoralty

taking socialism seriously means taking government efficiency seriously

we can't be negatively polarized into opposing efficiency www.nytimes.com/2025/09/24/n...

Nominal leftists functionally arguing to leave USAID dead is just depressing. US global leadership in science and health, both domestically and foreign, are deeply important to revive and buttress.

I don't understand why we need to steelman Ezra Klein explicitly saying "pro-life candidates" is an example of something we should compromise on, particularly if, like this person, you can't even point to what the other things we should compromise on that are more valid.
People really need to reckon with why people will vote for pro-choice referendums and pro-life candidates at the same time.

This isn’t an argument for a pro-life candidate but it is a suggestion that voting the referendums don’t refute the point.
I genuinely cannot believe that Ezra Klein said we should run pro-life candidates in Kansas, Ohio, and Missouri; three states that recently held abortion referendums where the pro-choice side won!

America is meant to be a bastion of free speech.

Everybody across the political spectrum should be speaking out to stop what’s happening to Jimmy Kimmel.

This is about protecting democracy.

This must go to court.

In cases like the fired professors at Clemson et al, is there any reason to think that they would delay suing their former employers until a more friendly legal regime is in place or is there strong incentive to move as fast as possible? (do not know anything about legal stuff)

As it always was, these people (Noah, Bari, TCW, etc.) hate free speech, hate criticism, and will find any frame they can to say that speech they don't like is a cause/bigger problem/more important than the ongoing government and private purges of people who don't toe the line in deference to Trump

Honest question, how many individual accounts are getting 20k+ RTs dunking on conservatives. 20? 200? I doubt it's more than that, and if so, you are talking at a very enumerable group of people as if they are a general class
