A Republican sheriff in a swing county that Trump won by 0.1% signed a contract to help ICE, then lost last week by 11.

Voters Ousted This Pennsylvania Sheriff After He Signed Up to Collaborate With ICE - Bolts
A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

Ah yes, my favorite time of year, when everyone who moved here from cold flat places tries to tell me how Atlanta overreacts to winter. You can take your ass back to wherever the fuck Indiana if you want, I didn’t invite you here.

For posterity. This was not intended as a knock on Ossoff. I think he is typically quite good.

And I believe he can fight like hell, vote on his principles, and still win Georgia by 3 to 5 points.

So joining in with the Gang of Cowards would have made no sense here.

Glad he didn't.
If @ossoff.senate.gov votes to capitulate he has to catch a primary challenger.

But they were gonna nuke the filibuster!

Good.

There is already far too much anti-majoritarianism built into the system.

See: The Senate. The Supreme Court. Gerrymandering. The Electoral College.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

As Democrats get their votes lined up and talking points ready, it’s important to remember they’re working together to lessen the fallout from their angry base.

In March (see below), Schumer voted to advance the bill but didn’t *technically* vote for final passage.

It’s dishonest bullshit.
"But Schumer and seven other Democrats who voted to advance the bill earlier Friday voted against passing it."

"Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (New Hampshire) was the only Democrat who voted for the bill. King also voted for it. Sen. Rand Paul (Kentucky) was the only Republican who voted against it."

My favorite bit is the part where they say that President Trump, a known Congress respecter, who has been illegally and unilaterally firing government employees, is going to definitely adhere to a bill that tells him to hire them back.
November 10, 2025 at 1:36 AM
Somebody smarter about politics than me has posited that Senate Democrats MIGHT be trying to set up the House to vote this down and, in so doing, own the shutdown even harder than they already do.

Seems plausible.

But Democratic leadership aren't exactly grandmasters of 4D Chess.

This is not a deal — it's an empty promise.

Trump and his Republican Congress are making healthcare more expensive for the middle class and ending it for working families.

Time for Democrats to stand tall for affordable healthcare. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...

We won't feed and provide healthcare for the poor, but we have the money to pay some lackeys to coordinate tearing down a memorial to Black World War II soldiers who died fighting for freedoms they had yet to fully realize.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️
