So much of academia runs on silent, collaborative service, requiring mutual goodwill to sustain it. That a few universities would sign letters to get them better deals w/ a corrupt administration… I don’t see how those universities survive in the long run. The rest of us just need to say no.

A moment that calls for collective action… to reject this transparent attack on academic freedom.
Trump's higher ed ransom note is here - everyone would have to acquiesce to their unprecedented demands or not be "given priority for grants," plus they can demand "reimbursement" for "violations" www.wsj.com/us-news/educ...

As someone who wrote a book literally titled WHITE FLIGHT, I’d just like to say that the argument that *whites* were the victims of violence in neighborhood transitions is so laughably racist it’s almost insane.

To put that in perspective, in Canada at $50k salary, you pay about $15k a year in taxes. For only $3k more in taxes we get 2 forms of pension, unemployment insurance, Healthcare and fund both federal and provincial governments... US is a giant ponzi scam

We are a government ruled by viral video fiat now.
You aren't even allowed to research which viral video has whipped the regime into a mania and how they came to believe it, because the research of the systems themselves is viewed as "censorship."
This how you end up randomly invading Portland.

Yup, exactly that—we have a HUGE problem in the US: the MAGA/MAHA men in charge of the health system are dismantling it, while spouting damaging BS, but because they were at Hopkins (Makary) or Stanford (Bhattacharya) or Harvard (Kulldorff) or UCSF (Prasad), apparently the world should believe them😢
As academics we need to get a lot better at calling out the bullshit and bullshitters from our own institutions. When a Hopkins Professor of Medicine can point to the words of the Harvard Dean of Public Health to support their BS, it's hard for people to disregard that.
MAGA/MAHA love to cite his opinions, but he got *at least* $150,000 to be an expert witness in anti-Tylenol lawsuits.
Conflicts of interest don’t bother MAGA/MAGA world at all—in fact, they almost seem to be a requirement (see: Dr Oz selling folinic acid)

The Nobel Prize might be the one science prize you’ve heard about. But does it really recognize the most important science?
