He is a computer safety researcher.
And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

Blocking hatemongers is one thing but this trend of using mass block lists to avoid hearing from people who might or might not hold points of view you expect to disagree with is unhealthy imo and hurts the platform.
Bluesky was better off with folks like Margaret Mitchell and Giada Pistilli on it.

Liberal and libertarian ideological commitments, while in general creating great prosperity and good works, leave their institutions open to infiltration by people with more pernicious ideological commitments.
I don't think this problem is intractable, but it is certainly extremely hard.

"honest" is a weird word to apply to Trump because he lies constantly but there is something fascinating about the way that he is always and at all times the exact guy he is
sure, you might not be able to eat or go to the doctor, but check out how nice Trump's new marble shitter is

I think that the median threat model in society is that a particular person will take a particular action that harms you directly or with 1 degree of separation.
The problem is that most hazards come from less salient / more abstract things and people get very uncomfortable when that's pointed out

there'd definitely problems with using military/war framings for electoral politics, but one thing it is good at is helping people keep is and ought separate. "The enemy has a strategic advantage that we must fight around" is rarely interpreted as "The enemy is correct and we should lose".

I actually do want the next president to appoint someone like Stephen Miller, except I want it to be Bill Kristol, and I want his monomaniacal obsession to be destroying Trump’s legacy and prosecuting everyone in the administration.

The Democrats need to get a hell of a lot of cameras on the White House and plaster the photos everywhere. It's not just the brazen symbol of a megalomaniac destroying national heritage; it's happening during a government shutdown when ordinary people aren't getting paid. Make every American see it.

There is a group of people currently in charge of this country who cannot be allowed to rule us under any circumstance, and who must be dealt with in ways that ensure they can never, as a class, return to power. Their enablers need to be similarly punished. Consequences FIRST, reconciliation later.

I am a single issue voter and that issue is I want the Republican Party in federal prison.
That rage you feel, as you watch the White House get leveled? That's how we beat Trump. Harness that, refine it, find ways to get other people equally enraged. Get them so mad they can't see straight. None of this kumbaya BS. White-hot, unreasoning anger, that demands the people who did this PAY.

In other words, it isn’t accurate to say the Illinois State Patrol providing basic assistance to protect protesters and keep order is a tacit form of cooperation with the federal government, when the absence of state LEOs would likely do much more harm in the grander scheme of Trump’s plans.

A huge moment for a federal judge to just say, the government is lying
U.S. District Judge April Perry says it comes down to a "credibility determination."
"I simply cannot credit [the Trump administration's] declarations to the extent they contradict state and local law enforcement. … DHS' perception of events are simply unreliable."

If China defeated the US in war and forced us to sign a treaty that would ensure a century of Chinese dominion in science and tech, they'd be smart to force the U.S. to:
- slash scientific grants in half
- reduce foreign students
- gut our manufacturing base
Instead, we're doing it all by choice.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race
