Baffled that sustainability is seen as optional; survival shouldn't be a niche interest. Appreciates a good otter. Northern. He/him.

I think the term #virtuesignalling was invented in a political science think tank in 2016.
It presumes to know the motives of the subject to be vanity. It's designed to attack people doing good by supposedly exposing an ulterior motive. It works for observers who can't imagine actual altruism.

One of the annoying things about Bluesky compared to the other app is the way it refreshes. Quite often in a conversation I want to pop out to get a link or check a verbatim quote. When you come back here the timeline totally refreshes and you lose the thread you wanted to reply to

During Covid lockdown, if you had family round on Christmas Day the police could force their way into your home and make them return to their own homes.
Does anybody know if this service is still available and, if so, do you have to book it?

The reaction to the CEO of a private healthcare company being murdered suggests that people really REALLY want socialised medicine in the US tbh. What this guy oversees has led to more misery and death than any serial killer.

Me: I deserve a nice big glass of wine tonight. It’s been a long week.

My brain: It’s only Tuesday.

Me: Who the fuck asked you.

Just discovered Labels on here. It's probably not the original intended purpose, but there are 2 excellent accounts dealing with privilege in UK journalism. Subscribe to @daddys.cash & the journo's posts will show their private school & its current fees, and @parents.blue if they're a nepo baby.

Not wishing to piss on anyone's Weetabix but what's to stop Bluesky going the same way as the other place? The online lifecycle of - provide great service; get loads of people; start adverts & charging $; cut costs by making it shitter for the user because they're committed & leaving is a hassle.

The networks we built in the other place are a lot to lose. But if you've got a good spot at a gig & then a gaggle of pissed up tall fellas come & stand in front of you chattering & farting badly, you either move or miss the whole point of getting a good spot in the first place.
