Lover of laughter, community and justice. Mom, lawyer, advocate. Eternal optimist though that’s being tested.
What a powerful story of the horrors our government is inflicting on members of our community, with the complicity of the Supreme Court. The kidnapping and transfer to countries in which people have never set foot.

Shame on us forever for this.

And we must continue to pay attention—and resist.
The Trump Administration seems to be handpicking deportees to test a new approach to mass deportation: sending people to nations where they had no ties, and to places that were not safe, and where they are subject to indefinite detention abroad. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/YAjCKA

The Supreme Court is baldly rubber stamping Trump’s decisions, without a word of explanation or justification.

This is not justice. This is not law.

This is the nation’s highest court providing cover for lawlessness.

And too many people will suffer. People who deserved more, better.
From Friday's #SCOTUS ruling in the Venezuela TPS case: "Although the posture of the case has changed, the parties’ legal arguments and relative harms generally have not. The same result that we reached in May is appropriate here."

One problem: the May ruling didn't *analyze* those arguments/harms:

We are long gone. These goons do not belong in a Home Depot parking lot. The dramatic expansion of funds for exponentially more of THIS - currently being propelled forward in Washington - is horrifying. This cannot be normalized. #ICEout
I obtained this from a community member minutes after arriving on scene following a raid at the Cypress Park Home Depot this morning. they detained day laborers.

We were very happy to give this scoop to @marisakabas.bsky.social's The Handbasket because it is important to support independent journalists who are doing the hard work at this time. Giving this story to Marisa also guarantees it will be in The Washington Post verbatim exactly 48 hours later.
EXCLUSIVE — The Onion has a full-page ad in today’s NYT featuring part of an editorial calling out congressional fecklessness towards Trump. They also sent a copy of their latest issue to every lawmaker.

We hear that immigrants are "freeloaders," yet they're being arrested at their workplaces.

We hear that immigrants "just need to follow the law," but when they attempt to, they're rounded up at courthouses.

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence.

They are in charge.

THIS is to arrest fashion district workers and day laborers. Something is very wrong in this country.

Proud of Angelenos for standing up.

An important legal victory: a judge held Trump’s termination of humanitarian protected status for Venezuelans was likely illegal.

Because of the leadership of the NTPSA and brave individuals, 350,000 people have the right to work and live without fear of deportation.

The fight continues.
Judge blocks Trump from ending deportation protection for Venezuelans
About 350,000 Venezuelans who sought refuge in the U.S. were set to lose their work permits and protection against deportation next week. A federal judge delayed that action.

Where people are labeled by the U.S. government as terrorists for happening upon a protest (see Ranjani Srinivasan), be highly skeptical of, “trust us, we’re dealing with the ‘bad guys.’”

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.
