Health sciences librarian, Creative Writing/Environment MFA, Canadian in WI. More prairies, fewer police. Too hot for Granbury, TX. she/her 🌈
It's wild how much better I feel both physically and mentally when it's normal amounts of cold (32 degrees) as opposed to abnormal amounts of cold.
Anyway, Nighthawk Solstice was yesterday! Sunsets start to get later, even though the actual solstice has not yet arrived!

If more people had ever made their own clothing, fewer people would get scammed thinking the web site charging $60 for a heavy coat with intricate embroidery is legitimate.

I used to be able to hate my landlord for cold air coming through the window frame. Now I can only blame myself.

Clearly the time to better insulate my doors and windows was before December.

Would be a very cold night if not for my cat lying on my legs.
Thank you, cat.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

Did not realize that my moon roof was slightly open until snowmelt started dripping onto my chest 🥺

I ordered one mat to go underneath my indoor bicycle trainer and was accidentally sent six mats. I have been trying to rectify this mistake, but it's hard to get five very long (though not very heavy) boxes to a FedEx dropoff location, especially after a big snow.

At last, I am done!

Nothing more embarrassing than looking for your phone, checking pants pockets, coat pockets, pants pockets, coat pockets, going downstairs and asking around, and then finding your phone in your pants pockets.
(The pockets are capacious.)

Me: I have a book idea that might actually be commercial!
Agent: That's great!
Me: The title is a reference to a classic 1971 Sesame Street Golden Book.
Agent: There it is.

Wisconsin in winter means looking forward to three hours of above-freezing temperatures next Wednesday.

I need to insulate my house better; I need to buy better outerwear. Alas, money and time are considerations.

My street is an ice rink. I have figured out how to submit a request with the city but I have little faith in its efficacy. However, it will be below freezing for the next ~11 days, so submitting to the city portal has to be better than doing nothing.

Libraries? Does anyone still use those?
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Snow day baking report: focaccia is OK but plain focaccia really lacks something. However, could not get rosemary on account of the snow day.

Plan to get in better shape for snow shoveling has not been as successful as hoped.

Because the auto tech didn't call me to warn me, I will be at the mechanic for much longer than I had planned. Might have to walk to Target and buy a book, lest I drain my phone battery.

I really love sandhill cranes. I enjoyed watching these ones kind of, well, crane their necks and look around.

Mixed feelings about working at a Catholic institution but it is convenient to be able to point at the big boss when he says things like this!
Pope Leo XIV told students not to use artificial intelligence for homework, saying that AI ‘won’t stand in authentic wonder before the beauty of God’s creation.’

I don't know if I am watching the wrong bookstagrams, but so many reels are free of content. "OMG, so good! You have to read this!" That's not a review! That's something I used to hear every day from ppl who had read the worst books! If a book is that good, its goodness is worth more exploration!
