Q: “Are you affirming you think Trump is a fascist?”

TRUMP: “That’s ok, you can just say yes.”

ZOHRAN: “Ok. Yes.”

really tired of academics who continue to pretend that “climate doomerism” results from irrational risk attitudes and not, like, being more informed than average about about the actual climate risks we are facing

The part where they threatened to break a judge’s car windows should be a bigger story … they feel comfortable treating judges this way, which means they are being told that they can do literally anything to nearly everyone

this is wild

the webpage for my fellowship words everything so carefully. Yes, it’s a merit fellowship for people who have overcome barriers to higher ed, but they have to formally state that it’s open to all genders and races and complies with all national anti-discrimination laws
“DNH is seeking a declaratory judgment that the scholarship violates the Equal Protection Clause and Title VI, as well as a permanent injunction "barring Defendants from seeing or considering applicants’ race when selecting the recipients" for the scholarship.”

I am by no means a prominent public intellectual, but my inbox is increasingly filled with messages from people who have been convinced by sycophantic chatbots that they have discovered revolutionary theories that entirely upend our scientific understanding of the universe.

staring at the APDA data and wondering why I ever let the PGR convince me that I needed to try to “stick it out” at a toxic program on the assumption that prestige translates into eventual job security

fascinated by how the Tr*mp administration is revising student loan policy in order to disincentivize people from becoming physician’s assistants but not to disincentivize them from becoming chiropractors

I am just…convinced that the masses do not understand how academia works. Some folks over on threads pointed out that most of those “online, 100% acceptance rate” management and leadership PhDs that you pay to do are predatory and scammy and can actually blacklist you from many jobs.

honestly, idk what took me so long to decide to break up with the “friend” who told me that if I felt like people were discriminating against me for having super short hair I could just grow it out again. The first red flag came long before that

has anyone yet done a study on the phenomenon of conventionally attractive young women who believe that the reason powerful men invite them into selective spaces is because they’re more qualified than their peers while not realizing that they are being merely regarded as toys and used as pawns?

Taps run dry as water crisis forces Iran to consider evacuating its capital
A prolonged drought along with years of overconsumption, an inefficient agricultural sector and mismanagement have led to the problem, analysts say.

granted, we were more Catholic than evangelical, but this stuff about “women and men have different brains” and “committing suicide is just as bad as committing murder” and “the separation of church and state was a mistake and our ultimate goal is to establish a theocracy” was in our textbooks

Seriously, what is wrong with these people?
