Real answer is pundit/politics reporters never cared about policy, just aesthetics. So because Collins presented as sane, she was labeled a moderate.
Exactly why was she ever considered a moderate?

What has she ever done to deserve that label that hasn’t been a faux objection vote when the outcome wasn’t already forgone?
In case anyone is wondering what kind of campaign Collins intends to run next year, now we know. No achievements, only hate:

"One person familiar with Nuzzi noted that her current contract may only run through the end of this year, meaning the magazine could let it quietly expire over the holidays."

The odds that she doesn't actually write for Vanity Fair is pretty high.
Scoop: As questions swirl around Olivia Nuzzi, I’ve learned she’s been relatively absent in the day-to-day at Vanity Fair, as the magazine continues to weather the storm the controversial hire brought through 1 World Trade Center

the writing is muddled but this isn’t really what the piece says. And unless I’m missing it, the words “no public interest” are not there. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
The Washington Post editorial board decided the Epstein files have “no public interest” before even seeing them. That’s a stunning position for any newsroom to take. Praising Clay Higgins as the lone ‘no’ vote, too? No wonder no one trusts legacy media. Absolutely disgusting.
