Landscape format in acrylics on canvas. A large bog of various browns, ochres and oranges, punctuated by grey rocks and slashed with wine trenches, sits between two large mountain slopes - a dark blue one on the left and an alizarin crimson one on the right. Separating the mountain slopes from the bog is a band of green fields and hillocks and trees, while beyond them in the small gap between the 2 slopes beyond the horizon is a round purple hill in front of pale blue jagged mountain peaks. Along the foreground is the titular montbretia, waving from its leaf-green long blades on the right half, and mostly hidden on the left half behind a raised ditch of long pale yellow grasses. An old #painting for you. 31 yrs ago I did a cycle tour by myself of the newly independent Czech Republic. Březnice was a town I stayed in and when leaving I enjoyed the view looking back at the church in the square where I stayed. A few months later I painted that view. #ArtYear #Scape #SpeirGhorm
Landscape format in acrylics on heavy paper. Loosely painted blotchy marks everywhere. Under a grey and white sky with red underneath breaking through, we are looking up a curving street lined with 2 and 3-story houses, all rendered in panels of oranges and yellows. The house on the right has a black skirt as do two of the houses on the left. Slate roofs on the left are rendered in red, orange and violet. Antennas are attached to most of the houses at the front from by upper story windows. The windows of all levels in the houses and the church are dark purple and blue. The street is curving to the right to the side and back of a large church similarly coloured save for two dark onion domes at the top of towers either side of the front which is facing left so we can't see it but for the tops of the towers. The street surface is a dark grey and foothpaths both sides are purple with lilac kerbs. Signed top left, LIAM '95

A #painting to look at. "Fitzwilliam Square" came from a time when I was just about able to do the odd commission. Still took me years (There was a lot of bricks). Dublin, sometimes it's Georgian. #ArtYear #SpeirGhorm

My rescue dogs Jessie on the left mostly white with black patches and a few spaniel spots wearing a green collar. She’s about 8 years old and a mix of terrier and spaniel who came to us in July. Beside her is Pippa mostly black with a white chest and paws. Her little face is grizzled with gray. She’s wearing a pink collar and is a 12 year old patterdale mix we’ve had since she was 3 months. #painting "Roundstone Bog" made a huge impression on me. Perhaps you already know I like our bogs, but the bog in between Roundstone and the Twelve Bens is a wonderland of water and bog vegetation, littered with stories and legends. I'll be painting it again. #ArtYear #SpeirGhorm #BlueTue
Square format in acrylics on mdf panel. A horizon divides the painting into a top and bottom half. The bottom has painterly low alizarin crimson bog vegetation and very pale blue bodies of water in pools that cover an even greater area with some of the pools being separated from other ones by mere slivers of alizarin or ochre. Along the horizon are some strips of land of yellow ochre and maroon with hilly peaks, and along the horizon behind them jutting up is a distant rocky ridge of pale blue almost lilac mountains with warm tones seeping through like rocky slopes, and their jagged tops having their high points of two triangular peaks. Sky is a painterly pale blue with a hint of teal. Painting was scanned before I signed it.

"Céide Cliffs" A new #painting which sold earlier this month. Had worked on this north County Mayo view you get across from the Céide Fields ever since a visit there a few years ago. Exhilarating looking down on something so large, but the wind does mess with your hair. #ArtYear #SpeirGorm #scape
Landscape format in painterly acrylics on canvas. View down on a dark turquoise ocean and across to, jutting out from the right edge to almost as far as the left edge, a long and very high sheer cliff with tons of horizontal strata of pale earthen colours including purples and blues in the horizontal shadows and at several points downward creases. At the cliff base there are isolated spots of white water, before a loose pattern of alternating large diagonal bands of turquoise and dark blue water stretching to the bottom edge of the painting. The cliffs have a flat top with a broad expanse of bright green fields, a mixture of almost lime and olive. The horizon is very close to the top of the painting and just below it in the distance is a green headland coming out from the right to halfway across the painting where it rises slightly and the pale rocky strata of the sea stack of Dún Briste can just about be made out, if you know what you're looking for. The sky is a very pale teal. The bottom right corner has loosely brushed long grass which is in the foreground of the viewer. Signed bottom left in red, Liam Daly

Sky is a messy pale grey and lilac. Blue field in foreground has short vertical but broad yellow and green strokes with a small amount of orange and alizarin. Behind it another blue field, separated by a wire fence running diagonally, has blotches of green and white blobs of grazing sheep. The hedgerow is at the back of it and has a stripe of a yellow field immediately in front of it leading up to the cottage on the right. It has a dark grey slate roof and we see the right gable end and the front though that is mostly obscured by a small green hedge, Behind the cottage and dark hedgerow are bands, across the full width of the paintings, of green and red-brown, both with blue underneaths breaking through, before a blue ridge and beyond it are the far mountains the lilac of which is rendered in broad expressive strokes and has rough broken outlining in red and blue. The painting was photographed before I added the signature.

Half way up the paining is a small white cottage with very dark roof to the right nestled into a hill on a shelf beside a small group of dark wine-coloured trees with pale orange trunks. In front of it a lime field slopes down to the bottom of the picture, as does a maroon and dark green field over the stone wall to the right, and to the left an olive green field across a dark ditch, while behind the cottage are rounded rocky hills of orange and olive green with grey rocks dotted around. They in turn are in front of a pale yellow green and grey pointed rocky small mountain which dominates the top third of the picture and has blue mountains behind it on the right side and grey and pink mountains on the left side. Sky is very pale grey blue. Along the bottom edge are the tops of some dark bold green-blue bushes with maroon shadows, and 3 small trees at the bottom of the stone wall, with pale orange trunks and branches rising into dark wine clumps. In the central sloping lime field in front of the cottage there are about a dozen white sheep spread around although half of them are up beside the cottage. The fields along the bottom are orange. Have an Irish #painting why don't you. "Ormond Quay Lower, Boardwalk" is another of my paintings of the north quays of my Dublin, painted for the same reasons as the others. Because I love squares and rectangles and walking and not walking and Dublin. #SpeirGorm #ArtYear #Scape
In acrylics on a wide canvas is a panorama painterly front-on view from across a river of a terrace of ten 4-storey buildings, all narrow (2 or 3 window bays wide) except the end one on the left which is 4 bays wide. Sky is a cloudy canary yellow. Roofs are blue slate hats with 8 of them having brick chimneys. Shop fronts, mostly dark especially doorways and windows, are at street level of every building bar two which have steps to a Georgian doorway with columns on either side and a fanlight above. Upper storeys of all are warm reds, oranges and purples except 2, a green one 3 buildings from the left, and a blue one 7 buildings from the left. Windows are dark or blue and have pale details of frames and in a couple of cases balconies. Three buildings have corner stones of yellow or blue. Bottom of picture has smokey grey top of a granite river wall and white railing of boardwalk below. Underneath the boardwalk is in shadow of a very dark blue.

Another west of Ireland #painting for you. "Westport II" In the County Mayo town there are two corners I'm particularly drawn to repeatedly when it comes to painting. This is one of them. I actually got to go back to Westport this year, for too brief a time but quite the treat. #ArtYear #SpeirGhorm

A #painting from the southwest of Ireland "Bandon II" came out of times I spent cycling in West Cork, the town being one I've always enjoyed visiting. And I'm very much overdue another visit. Maybe this is what happens when you get older. I wonder if it's still orange? #ArtYear #SpeirGhorm #scape
