I mean, those have existed since the 80s. The Black Onyx, just about anything directly influenced by Wizardry or Ultima, but before Dragon Quest redefined the RPG genre in Japan, etc..
Hell, Square's entire SaGa series can be described as "Japanese-developed WRPGs", in some ways.

I finally watched Kiba back in 2023, and that show is an absolute gem. It was based on a trading card game by Upper Deck, but the staff essentially just went "Screw that! We're just going to make an awesome fantasy series that barely shows its TCG origins!!".

fascinating to see that to garfield, evne 3.0, the middle of the scale, "mid", is worth a content, mirthful glance. garfield knows that a state of true zen lies in the flawed but enjoyable 3.0.

This is not a negative thing in the slightest, but I always found it interesting that there's a whole ass subculture of Dragon Ball imitation artists.
Maybe it's because Toriyama's art style is that iconic, but I've never seen this exist for any other fandom.
