Hi! I’m Elissa, and I love people. I’m a 30-something mom living in the DC suburbs, doing product work at @factalnews.bsky.social, and trying to learn how to take care of houseplants. Interests include coffee, solarpunk books, good wayfinding, the Washington Nationals, and small daily kindnesses. 💙

Has this World Series consistently featured the highest quality of baseball? No. Has it featured the widest array possible of beautiful, weird, specific baseball delights? Yes.

NEW: My CAP colleague Ben Olinsky has written a sobering examination of the surge in antisemitism in America and delivers seven solid nonpartisan policy recommendations for fighting it.

7 Policy Recommendations for Combating Antisemitism in the United States
The surge in antisemitism seen in America today threatens the Jewish community and the nation’s democracy as a whole, and it necessitates a nonpartisan, whole-of-society effort to eradicate hate.

Power is out on Capitol Hill in DC, at least two blocks each way north and south of East Capitol Street at 2nd Street NE/SE

All of us after watching this wild Brewers not-a-catch two-force-outs 8-6-2 play (I’m on my 7th rewatch and still trying to piece it together)
What the f**k just happened?

Shout-out to the person biking down East Capitol Street two blocks from the Capitol yelling “he makes everything sexual! Everything!”

Endless screaming. Horrified, not surprised.

I will never forget standing in @eastcitybooks.bsky.social leafing through Andrea Gibson’s Take Me With You, getting it wrapped around my heart, and weeping quietly in the shelves. Thank you for sharing your heart and words with us; we will miss you forever.

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it.

- Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders.

- Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.

In 1957, Strom Thurmond held the Senate for 24 hours and 18 minutes to block the passage of a Civil Rights bill.

In 2025, Cory Booker held the Senate for 24 hours and >19+ minutes to defend freedom & democracy.

An attendee at one of my husband’s concerts years ago told him that the music “shook the dust off [his] soul.”

Heading down for the first of their 20th anniversary concerts and ready to have the dust shaken off my soul too. (And probably cry. A lot.) DC needs this music after this cruel week.

A huge problem right now is that the media is credulously reporting that so many things Trump is doing by EO/edict/OMB or OPM memo is just the end of the matter, that he can do it by fiat.

That is not true.

Would love to understand why every Democrat is not out there every second of the day explaining in plain English that Donald Trump has declared war on cancer patients.
From a source inside the National Cancer Institute:

“Everyone is scrambling to figure out how we’re supposed to work to serve the public when we can’t engage at all.”

Democracy is something we build each day, person by person, step by step, with our words, our actions, and our beliefs. This is as true on Monday as it was on Sunday; it is fragile, but it is ours, and it doesn’t happen to us, WE create it, we sustain it.

Love and courage.
