An excellent history of fascism in Ireland. What stands out for me is how ludicrous, unhinged, but extremely dangerous these people were/are.

O'Duffy's Blueshirts for eg had *huge* support in the 30s, far greater than Mosley in Britain, and a very serious chance of taking power.

We should beware.

We're in a great place in society when Doctors Without Borders are being labeled as "terrorists" for trying to aid a population under genocide, and media just nods along in agreement.
Israel says it will suspend several humanitarian groups, including Doctors Without Borders, in 2026 for failing its new vetting rules for groups working in Gaza. Some international organizations have said that Israel’s rules are arbitrary and could endanger staff.

The worst of this is that both the E & West German governments sent gay men from the camps straight to prison. Their anti gay laws were not repealed for decades.
This is what the terfs and their fascist supporters want for us now.

Great line from another great @chrisdillow.bsky.social post.

"Much of the political class would rather not ask questions about capitalism or challenge vested interests and would rather focus on immigrants instead. And stagnations help them do this. It breeds reactionary politics partly because it fosters anxiety, and people who look down want to punch down" 👇

What a total disgrace that Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, and, above all, Sinn Féin voted this down.

Very few want this terribly cruel colonial sport, which sees hordes of horses, riders, and dogs rampage across the countryside.

The wishes of the majority were ignored. Again.

I agree that the proportion of Brits holding transphobic views is distorted by the media and by some with power and influence.
Note though that this data is from 2023. It’s possible, maybe likely, the increasing transphobic bile across media since then may have moved the dial in the wrong direction.

11% of Britons say they feel 'very negatively' about trans people which just highlights how much this is a top-down hate project with around 95% of the media hating trans people and a high percentage of MPs.

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Not mentioned in this itv article that the cap was £2 upto Jan25, the current government then increased it by 50%!

Small, privately-owned farms and localised markets can never achieve agroecology, therefore the movement needs a new strategy.

Excellent 💚

I'd love it if every time Reform talk about asylum seekers being a "danger to women and girls" someone could point out that 20% of Reform MPs have a conviction for assaulting a woman, so are statistically a FAR greater danger.
