Stripped down - almost like something from the John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album - John singing Girl with just his acoustic guitar accompaniment highlights one of his best vocal performances

I went to the Bowie Centre at the V&A East Storehouse today. This letter was one of the many highlights.

Once again, Beatles fans doing the best job in preserving The Beatles’ legacy - a stereo remix of an unreleased 1963 BBC recording of Misery.

No fade out, a clean ending, tight yet rough and ready (George’s guitar could do with tuning up), but all the better for it!

These are FAB! A great collection of interviews by @marklewisohn.bsky.social from International Beatleweek 2025.

So much insight into those early 1960s Liverpool years (plus a fascinating Wings diversion) I can’t recommend it enough!

Everyone’s heard the incredible (triple-tracked) three part harmonies on Because from 1969.

But four years prior to Abbey Road John, Paul and George recorded this far more subtle, emotional and raw vocal performance. Just so beautiful

As ever, Beatles fans across the world are doing the best work in remixing/restoring Beatles audio. Thanks to these diligent souls, the ropey Star-Club recordings are getting better all the time.

If PJ’s tech is the best out there, then surely it’s only a matter of time?

Glad they’ve seen sense, but I hope not too many people have already paid for the boxset in order to get Anthology 4.

New Beatles info!

Why Don’t we do it in the Road?, which was recorded on 9 October 1968, also makes a brief appearance on another White Album song recorded more than four months earlier.

Have a listen to this isolated backing track from 20/31 May 1968:

Fascinating 1972 letters from John to Paul, proposing a joint performance with The Rolling Stones at the One to One gigs. And, perhaps, a show in Ireland.

They’d previously met up on 29th Jan ‘72 (the day before Bloody Sunday)

I get the feeling this release is part 2 of the Anthology reboot. Designed for a new generation of intrigued fans who’ll inevitably discover The Beatles via the Anthologies, and then perhaps think, “I wonder what else they did after they split?”

Hearing John and Paul singing Two Of Us - minus instrumentation - is quite the thing.

Love the “We’re going home” sections. Throughout the song John’s been singing the melody with Macca harmonising. Suddenly, just on these particular lines, they swap.
