This is a great article by @huwareyou.bsky.social about a wonderful band.
Heads-up 60s music nerds! The new issue of Shindig! features my article on The Herd, gothic psych idols led by Peter Frampton and Andy Bown, who I interviewed for it. There’s an excerpt from it here! :)

Issue #171 – The Herd -
Psych-pop idols THE HERD were responsible for a string of unforgettable singles in the late ’60s including 'From the Underworld' and 'I Don't Want Our Loving To Die', but behind the hits lay a frustra...

Not even bothering with a top 10 of podcasts this year. This is the best one!

Throughout a tough 2025 these two beauties have been there all the way. Daily laughter, deep dives, antics, live shows, and insightful trinkets from their mind palaces.

Unashamedly ❤️ @tftimemachine.bsky.social

I’m fully expecting the inevitable, “I preferred the other stuff” reviews, but this is so much fun. And that’s where indie pods win - celebs bank on hits/numbers/ads etc, but because the focus is on money they miss out on all the opportunities to chat with likeminded people.

Launching a new podcast next year (not a Beatles one), just realising this is both the best/worst time to attempt something so foolish.

Then you think… Post-Beatles Macca quietly touring universities. How invigorating was that!

Stuff video pods - enjoy yourself indies!

As a humble podcaster, it’s good to see this headline. You feel immense pressure to get on the video pod train, but it’s so fucking expensive to do - which feels like the complete antithesis of what podcasting was supposed to be; a chance for the indies to have a shot.

Yes - it’s a lovely slice of psychedelic pie. And in mono (the best way to hear stuff like this)! Time to get a mono-psych playlist on the go…

Definitely! They were a good looking band, and in photos look super cool, but it’s that camera-friendly confidence that Peter has. You can’t keep your eyes off him!

Yes! A beautiful picture of music - love it. The Paradise Lost album is a lost masterpiece, as well as the singles there are hidden gems like On Your Own

A “bit” obsessed with this promo film.
Frampton, clearly has “star quality”™️, while the wonderful Andy Bown is awkward and uncomfortable in front of the camera. Antique-oak-furniture-voiced Gary Taylor thinks he is the front man, and Andrew Steele frankly couldn’t care less

Oh my, that’s appalling. Hopefully, someone will know a way where the Beatles community can help.

Bizarre, isn’t it! Interesting to learn that Cary Grant and Henry Fonda were considered for the lead role. Both brilliant leads, but it’s impossible to imagine they’d have had any of James Stewart’s depth. So many times where he transforms scenes from humour to frustration, or despair to joy.

Yes, same here. It needs to be black & white - as they mention in the podcast, it’s so difficult to exude warmth in a b&w movie, but it pours out of this!
December 19, 2025 at 10:25 AM
A few years ago, I lent the dvd to someone who’d never seen it. Next time I saw them, I asked what they thought and they replied: “So boring. I lasted about five minutes because it was black & white”

Just about the best review of It’s a Wonderful Life you’ll ever get. The @alltherightmovies.com chaps walk through every moment of this beautiful film; the background stories, phenomenal acting, writing and direction. A perfect celebration of the humour, warmth and devastatingly moving moments
